In a whirlwind of social media drama, the boxing world found itself engulfed in controversy as Rolando Romero, known as Rolly, and female boxing GOAT Claressa Shields exchanged heated words over a sparring session gone viral. The spark? A video of Arturs Ahmetovs knocking down Shields during a training session quickly circulated across platforms.
Romero, who emerged victorious against Ahmetovs with a TKO in 2020, initially took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the sparring incident. Subsequently, Shields’ response to this tweet forced Romero to quickly take down his tweet, but not before Shields aired out her laundry after the passing of the entire ordeal. GWOAT sure is a gift that keeps on giving.

Shields, addressing the issue on her Instagram Live, revealed that Romero had slid into her inbox with a message suggesting a connection between his knockout of Ahmetovs and alleged animosity from Shields. According to Shields, Romero seemed to be seeking attention and publicity by associating himself with the viral knockout.
“[Rolly] comes into my inbox last night on Instagram and was like: ‘Hey, it’s crazy how I knocked that dude out for you but you be hating on me,'” Shields revealed in her Instagram live session, shedding light on the direct message from Romero.
Adding fuel to the fire, Shields claimed that Ahmetovs, in a fit of frustration from a previous sparring loss to her, intentionally removed the padding from his gloves during their session, raising concerns about the safety of the training environment.
What started it all?
Following the widespread circulation of a video capturing her being knocked down during a sparring session, Claressa Shields took to Instagram live for an extensive and impassioned monologue. While the majority of Shields’ frustration was directed towards Arturs Ahmetovs, the male boxer responsible for the knockdown, she also conveyed displeasure with Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero. Despite the recent emergence of the video, it is purportedly from an incident that occurred five years ago.
“Rolly, next time I see you, you can put your f*****g dukes up because I’mma punch the f*** out of your a**. Whenever I see you in person you bow down and be respectful. But then you wanna come [into] my inbox… don’t flatter yourself!… So Rolly while your punk a** came to my inbox, I will square up with you and whoop your a** literally! I will come to TMT and literally put my hands on you. I wanna embarrass you Rolly.”
