Muhammad Ali is widely considered to be the greatest Heavyweight boxer to ever grace the ring. He transcended the sport and some even might argue that he has etched himself as the face of boxing. However, the former Heavyweight champion does not consider himself to be the greatest and has stated that publicly on various occasions. Growing up, he looked up to his ‘Idol’ Sugar Ray Robinson who himself is considered to be one of the greats by many boxing purists including Ali.
The two shared some profound memories and respected each other during their lifetime. One such occasion was in a public forum in which Ali was giving a speech. During his talk, he stated, “Sugar Ray Robinson is still my idol, If I said anybody was greater than me, it was Sugar Ray Robinson”.
