Boxing commentator Adam Smith‘s sky-rocketing career at Sky Sports was the stuff of legends. He was sighted in Anthony Joshua versus Otto Wallin: The Day of Reckoning. iFL TV caught up with the outstanding broadcaster, who hinted at a tentative return after cancer treatment.

During the conversation, he gave his two cents on the high-profile event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Adam Smith mesmerized fans for nearly three decades during his stint at Sky Sports. He was the head of the network’s boxing division. Highly regarded for his knowledge of the sport, Smith has amassed a multitude of awards over the years. But the best part of his career included building contacts with the who’s who of boxing.

Adam Smith: Talks about a possible comeback while taking things as they come

Andrew McCart of iFL TV asked Adam Smith, “Will we ever see you back in the booth doing the commentary again? I think, like I said to you, the boxing world missed it, missed yourself, the voice of boxing you may be called now, that might be that Michael Buffer, but will we ever see you in the the commentary box again?” Smith replied that he hoped for the same.

He shared how he was nearly at the point of no return. But the outstanding team of physicians he had been consulting saved him. The entire treatment procedure, which included chemotherapy, had been very demanding, but thankfully, he managed to turn things around. He is able to spend time with his family, which he now cherishes the most in the world. Overall, his entire thought process about life has undergone a change.

He said, “I think it’s been a year where obviously my my life I nearly didn’t make it it was it was very close and and you know I had my amazing team of doctors you know saved me and and brought me back back and and you know it’s been really hard with chemo and everything but ultimately I’m I’m you know I’m back I’m I’m healthy and I think the most important thing is my family um and I’ve you got a different perspective on life.

Later, he explained how he was pushing down work on the priority list. He has been taking each day as it comes. Earlier, he was 24/7, all hands-on while working with Sky Sports. Anyway, he said that he would live getting back to do some commentary. “I take it a day at a time, and uh, I’m just very lucky to be here, so, uh, yeah, I guess work is slightly secondary when before it was 24/7 when I was at Sky, I was just all in um but I like to do some uh some commentary again, yes, absolutely,” Smith said.

Earlier, he had shared how it was a delight watching Anthony Joshua fight the way he used to. Deontay Wilder disappointed him. But Adam Smith lauded Joseph Parker for what many felt was the best fight of his career. On the whole, a slew of great fights are lined up for the next year. The ace broadcaster, thus, sounded very optimistic for the sport.
