Come December, Regis Prograis might as well have a meet-up with ‘The Dream.’ But if that happens, his championship title will be on the line again after six months. The new challenger travels all the way from the Lightweight division. However, the New Orleans-born Southpaw seems unperturbed by the daunting task, which could perhaps be his toughest test thus far. Speaking to the media, he clarified what he has in store to welcome Devin Haney.

Devin Haney seems to be on a quest to become a two-division champion. Soon after his victory over Vasyl Lomachenko, he wished to move up a weight class. WBC moved in and declared him a ‘champion in recess.’ So Haney begins his campaign at 140 pounds, challenging the reigning WBC champion. According to an ESPN report, the fight may finally occur on December 9 at the Chase Center in San Francisco.

After becoming the undisputed Lightweight champion last year, Devin Haney was on a title defense spree. The previous one culminated on May 20. The 135-pound division has other big names. They have the character and skill set to offer credible, or perhaps more than that, opposition to ‘The Dream.’ Later, he even had an open public tiff against one of the division’s new entrants, Shakur Stevenson. However, as it turned out, the young undefeated champion foresaw a better future moving up the ladder. As Fight Hub’s Marcos Veigas caught up with ‘Rougarou’ at the gym, more details emerged – especially his goals heading into the bout.

Marcos Viegas said, “How does that end in your [your] eyes and when you mentally think about it?” And Regis Prograis responded, “I’m going, I’m going dominating, I’m going, I’m training for domination, that’s it, I’m training for straight total domination. I wanna it sounds bad, but I wanna hurt Devin, that’s it. I want to hurt him. That’s that’s all I want to dominate. I want to dominate. I want to hurt him.

Given that 80% of his wins came through knockouts, this probably gives Prograis confidence that he can control the fight. Earlier in the interview, he explained how he would try capitalizing on his strengths and remain focused on the current bout. He also shared about not allowing himself to be bothered by past performances.

In the video, Veigas finally asked the pressing question: “We hope this Devin Haney fight’s [going to] get across the line. Uh, what’s [what’s] happening? What’s the latest with that?” With the details of the bout still shoddy, fans have been waiting to hear from the horse’s mouth directly.

Prograis replied, “I heard December 9th; what I’m hearing is December Night Out in San Francisco; um I’m I don’t know if he signed a contract or not…” The Light Welterweight Champion shared that one of the probable reasons the fight had to be moved to the Bay Area was due to the non-availability of venues in Las Vegas. So the Fight Hub presenter once again asked whether the bout was sure to take place. Prograis, smiling, replied that nothing could be said with certainty in boxing until you step inside the ring. Then, he explained why he considered the Haney fight significant – something that could finally pave the way for him to enter the big leagues and leave a legacy.
