Ryan Garcia is supposed to fight Devin Haney on April 20 in New York. However, Garcia’s recent social media activity has thrown a spanner in the plans, leaving everyone to wonder whether the fight would even happen. Meanwhile, Shakur Stevenson has come to the rescue, offering to replace the Victorville native.

Since the press tour began, Garcia has shown signs of deteriorating mental health on social media. On the other hand, Stevenson has been unlucky in securing an appropriate opponent because of his lackluster performance against Edwin De Los Santos. So, ‘Sugar’ Stevenson saw his opportunity to cash in. Today, Elie Seckbach revealed the story on social media!

Turning to Instagram, Seckbach shared a clip describing the situation. He presented Stevenson’s tweet, where ‘Sugar’ responded to one of Garcia’s frantic tweets, “Sub me in Coach.. Players up, Lil [bro].” However, it’s worth mentioning that Sandor Martin is the mandatory opponent for Haney, so it’s likely that Haney would fight Martin instead of Stevenson. Despite that, Stevenson is adamant about being Garcia’s replacement, given the level of attention this fight has received.

In addition, when an X user tried to push the Devin vs. Stevenson narrative, Stevenson quickly responded by writing Facts.” In a later tweet, Stevenson doubled down on the idea, claiming, “Hopefully they hit me. [I am] the only person who makes sense if they want to keep the ball rolling.” However, there hasn’t been a word from Haney’s corner about fighting Stevenson. Meanwhile, Martin seems open to fighting Haney.

After Devin Haney effortlessly defeated Regis Prograis last year, Martin became the mandatory opponent for Haney’s newly acquired WBC super lightweight belt. The WBC wanted Haney to defend his new title against the top contender, aka Martin. So, according to a December 11 report from Marca, Martin called out Haney for a fight.

During their interview, Martin congratulated Haney for winning the title and becoming a champion in a second division, since not everyone can achieve such status. However, that did not deter Martin, who added, “I would tell him that if he wants a top-level fight, like the one he is looking for with someone who will demand him both physically and mentally in the sport of boxing, he knows that I am the fight he needs.”
