It’s been nearly 12 months since multi-division champion Amanda Serrano last defended her featherweight undisputed championship. Last year, on August 5, she defeated Heather Hardy at the Jake Paul–Nate Diaz headline event. Serrano later fought Danila Ramos in October for another title defense. But the situation subsequently altered. Given that it was a 12-round (3-minute) fight, the WBC’s stance on the issue left her with only three belts, thereby rendering her a unified champion.
Undeterred, ‘The Real Deal’ moved on. She added another feather to her cap as she defeated Stevie Morgan in a light welterweight fight. She is now preparing for the much-anticipated Katie Taylor rematch. It is set to take place on November 15 at the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson show. In the meantime, it seems news about Heather Hardy has deeply affected the world champion. The Brooklyn-born former featherweight champion has reportedly been dealing with injuries that have kept her out of the ring for an extended period of time. As a true sportswoman, Amanda Serrano took to social media to express her support for Hardy.

Heather Hardy was speaking with ‘Fight Post UK’. Shedding some light on her medical condition, she said, “When you have a concussion, that piece of your brain dies, and I can’t afford to have any more of the dead stuff.” Reportedly, issues commenced after last’s rematch with Amanda Serrano; they had previously fought way back in September 2019.
I’m Still Hurt & Torn by this 😢
I know it wasn’t intentional & part of the sport we both do but deep down I still feel like
If I didn’t fight her she’d be ok today 😔
I pray everyday that @HeatherHardyBox gets better. She has always been dear to me & to many WE would say she… https://t.co/q3zWRnRVXo— Amanda Serrano (@Serranosisters) August 4, 2024
Hardy said that after the match for a few days, her vision was impaired. She added, “I was seeing double. I went for an MRI, and the Dr said it was the effects of a concussion, and I couldn’t get hit in the head anymore, but I should be fine after a few months.” Unfortunately, her condition didn’t improve even after returning to training. She even had to pull out of her bare-knuckle debut on May 11.
“I’m Still Hurt & Torn by this,” said Amanda Serrano, replying back to the post featuring Heather Hardy’s statement. She is aware that there was nothing intentional when she and Hardy fought their rematch last year. Nevertheless, she still harbors a lingering feeling of regret that if they hadn’t fought, perhaps ‘The Heat’ would have been doing fine.
Praying for Hardy to get well soon, Amanda Serrano said, “She has always been dear to me, & to many, WE would say she was the third Serrano, my sister.” Assuring all her support, Serrano said that she is just a phone call away from ‘The Heat’.

Heather Hardy’s candid reflections
In the Fight Post interview, Heather Hardy shared why she couldn’t have retired earlier. She said that she was unable to contemplate such a move primarily on account of financial challenges. “I couldn’t have afforded to retire sooner… had a Bare Knuckle world title fight on the table for $50,000, money that I needed. This wasn’t a walk-off into the sunset and leave-the-gloves-in-the-ring kind of thing,” said Heather Hardy.
On May 6, talking about her condition through an Instagram post, ‘The Heat’ left a cryptic message. Many interpreted it as suggesting that her career was on the brink of ending. She responded back to Amanda Serrano’s message by requesting that she encourage her fans to purchase some of her fight merchandise, such as t-shirts, posters, or other memorabilia. Assuring her of taking proactive action, ‘The Real Deal’ shot back, “Why haven’t you asked me?”
