It’s been a long wait for the boxing world to see a fight between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder. Thankfully, it’s finally happening! In a recent twist of fate, Joshua promised the fans what they have always wanted. Joshua and Wilder will feature in the ‘Day of Reckoning’ fight card this Saturday night. But the question is – what made Joshua make such a bold promise?

Not so long ago, a report from Dan Rafael confirmed the Londoner and the American would ink a contract before the weekend. Both fighters will enter into a two-fight contract. If both fighters manage to win in the upcoming event, the first fight will unfold on March 9. However, fans were still doubtful about a clash as a fight between them was canceled before. So, the two-time heavyweight champ claimed the fight will come soon.

According to a report from The Standard, the Watford native suggested he is aware of what people want from him. Joshua further added that he and Wilder are finally sharing the fight card but not against each other. However, he promised a fight between them would come soon as well, highlighting Wilder’s eagerness to fight.

“I know what people want…that’s no secret – Deontay Wilder. We’re sharing the same card finally, although we’re not in the ring at the same time. That will come, I promise you. It just takes time. I’ve not shied away from the fact I want the Wilder fight. He’s keen, too,” Joshua said. He proceeded to claim that when two fighters actually want to fight, it usually happens. This comes after Joshua’s appearance in the media day workout.

Deontay Wilder claims there’s too much pressure on ‘AJ’

On Wednesday, all the fighters for the upcoming event in Saudi Arabia showed up for the live media day workout. While every fighter went through the rigmarole involved in such an event, Joshua had other plans. Instead of showcasing his skills before the fight, ‘Femi’ opted to let some local youngsters take center stage.

However, reacting to Joshua’s participation in the event, Wilder revealed media has been asking him about his thoughts on Joshua’s behavior. The Tuscaloosa resident suggested the media was pressuring ‘AJ’ and wished for them to afford Joshua some space. “Y’all put a lot of pressure on this man. I wish everybody would back off him until he fights,” said Wilder.
