Despite not being a family member, some people become more than family! That’s what Marikit Laurico was to Floyd Mayweather. After working closely with the retired boxing legend for a decade, Laurico passed away at the age of 47 in March last year. And Mayweather is anguishing in her loss to this day!

In a recent pinch, Floyd Mayweather appeared in The Pivot Podcast to discuss everything boxing! However, when the topic of Laurico’s passing came up, he could not contain the tears that welled up as he expressed his anguish of not being able to get closure after her death. During the podcast, when asked about how hard it was for him to get closure after Laurico’s passing, Mayweather claimed, “Once, I know that the people that loved her came and showed up [at] her last party, it was unbelievable, and I was happy with that.” However, that happiness did not last long and turned into anguish.

“But I’m still not happy because…[I] still [don’t have] closure cuz I never seen her,” said Mayweather. He recollected the time when he paid the funeral home and felt the bitter anguish of not being able to see her assistant ever again.

“When you go in the funeral home and give them the check, you don’t even want no change back. They gave me, they put the change in the envelope, I just don’t even know what I did with the envelope… It’s like you’re doing a good deed, but it feels like you’re doing something like, ‘Damn, I don’t want to do this. I’m sending her home. I’m never going to see her again.’ So, it’s a crazy feeling, it’s a real crazy feeling,” said Floyd Mayweather. However, this wasn’t the extent of his grief.

Mayweather claims Marikit Laurico was like a ‘sister I never had’

Before accepting that he never got closure after Laurico’s passing, Mayweather spoke about ‘Kitchie’ Laurico’s role in his life. “People really wouldn’t understand that people like your drivers and your assistants are your best friend. Kitchie was the only person in life that I could talk about anything to, who knew my deepest secrets. There was no male or female in my life that I told more stuff than her,” said Mayweather.

Later during the podcast, Mayweather suggested Laurico was with him through thick and thin, and all she wanted was to support him. “She taught me a lot, and she helped me a lot. Through rain, sleet, snow, or hail, she had my back. All my assistant wanted to do was support me and help me be the best man I can be… We argue, we debate, we help each other…that’s a sister I never had. A best friend I ever had,” said Mayweather.
