In September last year, the news of Canelo Alvarez appearing in Creed III hit the boxing world like a bag of bricks. People went wild with anticipation and excitement to watch the movie when it dropped. While the movie did great numbers for its storyline, cinematography, and other stuff, teasing Canelo’s appearance played a key role in getting those high numbers. According to a report from Collider, Creed III yielded a massive $224.3 million across the globe. But will Canelo appear in more movies in the future?

The director/main lead, who played ‘Adonis Creed’, Michael B. Jordan, claimed he wanted Canelo in the movie to represent the Mexican culture. Regardless of the reason, most fans had expected a substantial role from Canelo. Unfortunately, that was not the case; his appearance in the movie was relatively brief. Despite its brevity, the boxing world has been wondering if it could happen again, similar to Mike Tyson. While appearing in the Full Send podcast, Canelo shed light on the matter while describing his desire to play a Viking.

Canelo Alvarez wants to play a Viking

Halfway through the podcast, Kyle Forgeard questioned Canelo about his experience in Creed III. Canelo was initially confused about how to describe his experience. He stated, “I don’t, I don’t know how to respond that.” Canelo further stated what fans expected from his cameo in the movie. “People think I’m going to be in the ring or something; they want to watch me in the ring something.”

When probed about whether he would like to make more movie and TV appearances, Canelo confidently answered he doesn’t like all that. However, he did not eliminate the chance of him appearing in movies for specific roles.

“But you know if I some….I have the opportunity to act in a movie like uh Vikings or something from…something like that,” said Canelo, affirming his openness to play certain roles in films. With Canelo’s desire to play a Viking, offers may come his way soon. Given his short appearance helped contribute to the film’s $224.3 million gross, imagine one where he plays a major role.

The success of Creed III

The release of Creed III didn’t just feature Canelo’s debut in Hollywood. But it was also the first movie directed by Michael B. Jordan. Jordan had a $75 million budget to work with, and it’s safe to say the movie made more than its double. It garnered high praise from critics and audiences alike for focusing on guilt, forgiveness, and trauma rather than its traditional underdog theme.

The enormous success of Creed III has opened doors for a conversation about the expansion of the Creed universe. What began 47 years ago with Rocky has blossomed into a multi-million dollar series and might continue to grow further.
