Tyson was born in the streets of Brooklyn, New York, and was part of a dysfunctional family. His father bailed out on him and his mother when Tyson was just a baby. This left Tyson without a father figure, leaving his mother responsible for the whole family. However, she too passed away when Tyson was 16 years old, which made Iron Mike emotionally vulnerable.

This led Tyson to pursue a life of crime and violence, often getting in trouble with the law and being placed in juvenile detention centers. However, this would change when Tyson was introduced to boxing by Bobby Stewart, which eventually led him to his adopted father and coach Cus D’Amato, who would turn Iron Mike into one of the best heavyweights in the world.
