Ginny Fuchs felt a little uncomfortable throwing her jabs in the first round against Adelaida Ruiz. Taking it as a loading-unloading issue, she went ahead and put on a dominating display, never feeling bothered by it. However, when she soaked in the gushing emotions of the fight and adrenaline rush, she took off the bandages, only to find a messed up right thumb.
The American fighter had racked up a win against all the odds and even addressed her injury woes in the post-fight interview with DAZN’s Chris Mannix. Fuchs told him, “I felt it the first round, it was a hook. I thought I just jammed it. Then I took off my glove, and I was like, ‘Oh sh-t’.” Since then, fans and pros have poured in wishes and prayers for the newly crowned interim champion for a speedy recovery. And it seems their prayers have come true, as she didn’t suffer any broken bones, despite a freak injury.
Mannix turned to his X handle and gave the update to the fans, while also painting the true extent of the gruesome injury. He wrote, “Remarkably, no broken bones for @GinnyFuchsUSA, who gutted out a nasty looking hand injury to win a 115-pound title on Saturday. Fuchs suffered a dislocated right thumb that was so severe that the bone broke through the skin.”

It might take a while before Fuchs heals properly and hits the mitts before taking on her next challenge. It could be months before she mounts a challenge for the title. But the Houston native is still determined and holds firm faith in her skills to defeat not only Gonzalez but also the other titleholders at 115.
Ginny Fuchs is coming for all the champions at 115
In the same conversation with Mannix, Fuchs revealed her desire to keep on collecting the gold, something she missed out on in her amateur career. While she won a bronze at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, she couldn’t convert it to gold in the subsequent tournaments. So, the super-flyweight boxer wants to solidify her legacy and add more belts to her waist. And for her, it doesn’t matter who holds the other titles at 115.

She said, “I just want to keep getting belts. Honestly, I don’t even know who holds the other belts in the [115-pound] division. But whoever they are, I’m coming for them all.”
