You put any fighter with any style and skillset against him, and Abdullah Mason will make quick work of him. That’s how his career has been so far. Pummeling opponents and scoring knockout wins is the only way he has learned to rack up victories. The hot and young prospect spells trouble for everyone in the lightweight division, including Gervonta Davis. What if two were to collide in the ring?
Mason, 20, has amassed high praise from the Top Rank hierarchy, and the fans can see why. The southpaw boxer is a perfect blend of skills and power and can take down older and more experienced fighters. It’s natural that there are speculations and hypotheticals of him going up against one of the champions at 135 soon, and the first name that pops up is ‘Tank,’ another fighter with a knack for knockouts. So, when Mason sat down with Millcityboxing, one question thrown his way was, “How do you see yourself matching up with Tank if that were to happen?”
Mason, who has honed his boxing skills under his father, Valiant Mason, remained upbeat about his chances. The Cleveland native said, “With me, my brothers, and [my] father with us in the gym, having the right training camp… I feel like if I matchup with anybody, I get the job done.”

Mason, at 14-0 with 12 KOs, comes from a family of boxers. He has benefited from growing up with his 4 brothers, who also picked up boxing, and it has been an exhilarating experience for him. “I’ve enjoyed growing with my brothers and my father,” Mason disclosed once. It seems the lightweight boxer puts his faith in his family and charts out a plan for the fighter he goes up against. This has worked wonders till now, as he has knocked out his last 4 competitors, 3 of whom came this year. There are questions about when Mason fights for a title shot. Is he ready yet?

Abdullah Mason: Is a title shot in 2025 too soon?
While Mason wants to have a go at a title somewhere in 2025, Bob Arum wants to take things slow with him. The American promoter pointed out his age as the reason when he had a conversation with The Ring. He had declared, “He just turned 20 years old, and you can’t forget that he’s a young, young guy. So, we don’t want to rush him crazily, even though a lot of people say that he could compete with much older guys. There’s no rush with Abdullah.”
