Sylvester Stallone and Dolph Lundgren deconstruct their Rocky 4 fight

In a video, both Stallone and Lundgren revisit their epic clash. ‘Sly’ then praised the Swedish actor for his boxing skills claiming he hit his shots with perfect timing. “Rocky’s just pushing him forward. Of course, the ref breaks it up, and then the cheap shot boom. It’s just interesting you know you take those kinds of falls and you have to come with reckless, abandoned but your timing was perfect,” he said.

Following this, Lundgren returned the praise, stating that he was impressed with Stallone’s stamina despite being 10 years older. “You know I was a karate champion at the time. Almost 10 years younger than you and you’re keeping up with me and I was kind of impressed,” said Lundgren.

The Expendables star revealed that he and Lundgren fought using 8 oz gloves, which have now been banned from boxing. Moreover, he claimed that he would never forget the punches due to the pain they caused him. He even detailed a particular punch that he felt through his spine.

I look at this stuff and go I don’t think this is ever coming down the pike again like these shots are… look at my head bang. Those are full. I’ll never forget that shot. I felt it in my butt. You hit me on the top of the head. It literally went down my spine. These are shots with 8 oz gloves that have actually been banned today because they’re too lethal,” said Stallone.

Many fans find this fight iconic due to it seeming like a real fight. However, Stallone’s body shouldered the burden of trying to make his fight with Drago as realistic as possible. This only goes to show the lengths Sly would go to achieve perfection.
