‘I Feel Safe With This Crew’: Former World Champion, Trainer and Floyd Mayweather’s Uncle Shares Rare Pics With Mike Tyson and Boxing Greats

Fifty-eight-year-old Jeff Mayweather is a former IBO Super Featherweight titleholder active from 1988 to 1997. Following his brothers, Roger and Floyd Mayweather Sr., he too became a trainer and, to his credit, prepped up world champions such as Sultan Ibragimov and Celestino Caballero. Now appearing contented with his second career, Floyd Mayweather Jr.‘s uncle makes it a point to share vignettes and anecdotes of his life with fans and followers.

Jeff Mayweather debuted on April 23, 1988, against Eddie Doran. After that, he participated in some famous matches. It includes the 1993 fight against Oscar De La Hoya and the one against Joey Gamache in 1994. On April 21, 1994, he became the IBO Super Featherweight champion after defeating John Roby. He retained the title till August 25, 1995, eventually losing it to Israel Cordona. After that, he lost the next three matches. Finally, in 1997, he hung the gloves, winning the last two bouts of his career.

A few hours ago today, through his Instagram handle @therealjeffmayweather, he shared a pic that had him standing beside a few luminaries. His message read, “I feel safe with this crew. Everyone has a belt in a combat sport. This picture was taking after Mike Tyson comedy show at the MGM about three, maybe four years ago. Very funny show.“

It would have been easy for most to make out ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson and Jeff Mayweather. However, as to the identity of the remaining two gentlemen, the person standing on Mayweahter’s left appears to be former World Kickboxing Association Cruiserweight Champion Amer “Al Mahseer” Abdallah. From Bronx, New York, he held a world championship as an amateur, won a gold medal in Junior Olympics, and also held responsibilities as a trainer besides owning a gym.

As to the person standing on Mike Tyson’s left, he is a former professional boxer and kickboxer Dewey Cooper, who has, in the past, been a Heavyweight champion under World Kickboxing Confederation(WKC) and a Cruiserweight champion under World Kickboxing Federation(WKF).

Undoubtedly, in the company of such outstanding fighters, Jeff Mayweather’s comments stand true.

Among the many training credits Mayweather enjoys, one that often finds a special mention is an assignment with YouTuber-turned-boxer KSI before his fight against fellow YouTuber and later business partner Logan Paul. Besides, it also has feature contributions from several professional boxers.

Then there’s the ‘themayweatherexperience.com,‘ a non-contact training program designed for regular people who are interested in health and sports. But, again, a perusal of the website would reveal him appearing with his elder brother Floyd Mayweather Sr. and others, including Dewey Cooper and Amer Abdallah.
