Recently, Conor McGregor took to X (formerly Twitter), reacting to the Floyd Mayweather vs. Canelo Alvarez fight. ‘The Notorious’ claimed he had landed more punches on ‘Money’ Mayweather compared to ‘Cinnamon.’ Canelo did not take that jab from McGregor lightly, as he came back with a challenge. However, amidst the chaos, Oscar De La Hoya, Canelo’s former promoter, made an outlandish prediction for the potential fight.
On one hand, the fans are elated with the prospect of these two combatants coming together in a massive crossover event. On the other, many had speculated what would the outcome of the fight look like. So, who else would be better than the person who has worked closely with Canelo to resolve that conundrum? While appearing in an interview with ES News, ‘Golden Boy’ gave his two cents on the potential fight.

Oscar De La Hoya claims Conor McGregor is a scraper
After coming across McGregor’s claim about landing more punches, Canelo asserted he would make quick work of McGregor with just one hand. During the interview, the reporter asked De La Hoya about the potential fight between Canelo and McGregor. ‘Golden Boy’ stated, “I don’t know about one hand, but Canelo will beat him.” He explained if it were a proper boxing match, Canelo would undoubtedly take home the victory. De La Hoya cited McGregor as being a strong scrapper behind his belief.
“I think Canelo will beat him in a good fight because McGregor is actually a scrapper,” De La Hoya told ES News. He then proceeded to elaborate on his previous statement, claiming McGregor does not care who his opponent is, “McGregor comes to fight. McGregor doesn’t give a shit of who is in front of him,” said De La Hoya.
Despite those claims, De La Hoya concluded his prediction by stating, “I still have to go with Canelo inside the boxing ring.”
Canelo Alvarez brands De La Hoya “Crazy”
Oscar De La Hoya’s ‘Golden Boy Promotions’ has faced significant challenges in recent years. Previously, De La Hoya’s star fighter, Canelo Alvarez, parted ways with him, citing internal struggles with the former boxer. Recently, Ryan Garcia filed a lawsuit against De La Hoya for breaching contracts. What’s more, while appearing in a podcast with Full Send, Canelo branded the former boxer “crazy.”

During his appearance, Canelo stated, “I’m glad to go away from him. He’s f***ing crazy. He’s a hypocrite.” Canelo even brought up De La Hoya’s rift with Ryan Garcia, claiming people avoid working with him. Golden Boy Promotions has recently struggled to acquire elite-level boxers, unlike their competitors like Top Rank, Matchroom Boxing, and PBC.
The possibility of a crossover fight between Canelo and McGregor remains uncertain. However, predictions made by individuals like Oscar De La Hoya are generating loads of excitement and anticipation for such an event.
