Often, boxers and their promoters present a united front! However, that’s a far cry when it comes to the relationship between Ryan Garcia and Oscar De La Hoya. The boxer and promoter duo have clashed heads ever since Garcia suffered his first career defeat at the hands of Gervonta Davis last year. However, things are looking up for the duo now!
At least, that’s what ‘King Ry’ claims! Previously, Oscar and Garcia had sued each other for concerns regarding the latter’s contract with Golden Boy Promotions. Then Garcia got into it with Bernard Hopkins before the Oscar Duarte fight. And since then, Garcia’s relationship with Golden Boy had seemed murky at best. However, while appearing in an interview with Ariel Helwani today, Garcia sheds light on what’s brewing between him and Oscar.

During Helwani’s MMA Hour, Garcia’s upcoming fight came up, revealing Golden Boy Promotions will be in charge of the fight. So, Helwani quickly probed Garcia about their quarrel during the Oscar Duarte fight, where Garcia had barred Oscar from entering his backroom. In response, Garcia stated, “I just don’t want that energy around me, you hating – get the f**k out of there.”
However, the Victorville native suggested, “We’re cool now! We’re cool now!” Backing this statement, Garcia even shared a video with Oscar on his Instagram story today! Nevertheless, when Helwani asked him whether the feud with Oscar distracted him during the Duarte fight, ‘King Ry’ claimed, “[It] wasn’t a distraction at all. I’m not paying attention to dudes…”
Even so, Helwani highlighted Oscar isn’t a random critic. Rather, he is Garcia’s promoter. So, the Victorville native claimed, “I don’t know. I couldn’t tell the difference between him and the guy next door…I don’t give a f**k if you’re Obama if you’re hating – you’re hating.” Moreover, while Garcia has started to work on his relationship with Oscar recently, the Golden Boy has always been positive about Garcia.
Oscar De La Hoya claims, “You think everybody is your enemy”
Following Garcia’s win over Oscar Duarte in December, the head of Golden Boy Promotions appeared in an interview with Fight Hub TV. He claimed, “As his promoter for many years to come, we’ll figure it out and figure out a plan. Then we’ll go back to the drawing board. I’m proud of him, man.”

Reflecting on their disagreements and feuds over the last year, Oscar stated, “Being inside the ring, fighting, you feel so much emotion. Outside the ring, a big fight, especially after you lose, you come back, and you think everybody is your enemy. And then after you win, everything’s great.” It’s worth mentioning that he said these things even after being barred from entering Garcia’s backroom before the same fight.

With that said, after nearly a year of clashing heads with each other, Oscar De La Hoya and Ryan Garcia seem to be on good terms. However, it begs the question, if Garcia loses his upcoming fight against Devin Haney on April 20 – would Garcia and Oscar’s relationship deteriorate further?
