Devin Haney isn’t having any of it and has now blasted a critic on social media for being disrespectful. But, what’s this all about? Well, not too long ago, Terence Crawford was downgraded to ‘champion in recess’ by WBC when ‘Bud’ decided to move up to 154 pounds to compete for belts in that division. Following this move from WBC, Mario Barrios stood to benefit the most! Why?

Having defeated Yordenis Ugas in September last year, Barrios obtained the interim version of the belt, and after WBC’s move, he was handed the full version. Meanwhile, Devin Haney reacted to this update on X, which led to a squabble with the critic.

After the update about Barrios started spreading like wildfire over the internet, Devin Haney hopped on X to write, “I had all da belts already..” While it’s true that ‘The Dream’ held all the belts at lightweight division, becoming undisputed by beating George Kambosos Jr. in June 2022, a user had other ideas.

Responding to this X post from Haney, the user disregarded his achievements, claiming nobody cared and emphasizing that Gervonta Davis is still better than him. This infuriated Haney, who has a longstanding beef with Davis, so he took his frustration and dumped it on the critic. Haney wrote back, “The nerve of a bum a** ni**a like you too call me a bum.. ni**a i could literally beat u too death”.

On the other hand, Davis and Haney go way back—the duo even sparred in the Mayweather gym at one point, the results of which have also become a point of contention between the two, with either fighter claiming they won the match. However, Adrien Broner, who was present in the gym at the moment, including others, has suggested Davis was the actual winner. Regardless, Haney seems to be on a reaction journey today, as he reacted to something else as well!

After getting floored by Ryan Garcia in May, Haney is staring down the WBC mandatory barrel to fight Sandor Martin. He has the option to force his move up in weight to face Barrios while relinquishing his belt or stay and fight. However, the second option might not be as lucrative as Matchroom Boxing skipped the purse bid organized by the WBC, and let’s just say Haney isn’t happy about it.

Instead of Matchroom, Top Rank seems to have secured the rights to host the fight by bidding $2.4 million on Tuesday. 10% of this will be set aside for the winning bonus ($242,000) while as the champion, Haney is entitled to 70% ($1,524,600) and Martin will get 30% ($653,400). However, Haney isn’t happy about the payouts and wrote on X, “Wow Matchroom..nasty work”.

Nothing seems to be going right for the former undisputed champion, with even his posts on X seeming to attract critics. So, it will be interesting to see what his next step will be. Do you think Haney should fight Martin or move up to face Barrios? Let us know in the comments.
