In recent times, John Fury has emerged as one of the most enigmatic characters in the boxing scene. Previously, John Fury had branded the legendary Mike Tyson a ‘traitor.’ Why? Because Mike joined Francis Ngannou’s corner as a coach, even though John named his son Tyson Fury after ‘Iron’ Mike.  At one point, John Fury also suggested he would fight Mike in an exhibition match.

Nevertheless, nobody took the proposal seriously, but things have seemingly shifted to a rather serious note. Recently, Tyson Fury appeared in an interview with Fight Hype, but John Fury promptly stole the show. As Papa John took center stage, he bravely challenged the former heavyweight champion to fight on the same card as his son on 23 December. While Mike has not responded to the challenge, John’s words truly shocked everyone.

While Tyson Fury was speaking to Michelle Joy Phelps from Fight Hype, she asked Fury about his father’s challenge to Mike Tyson. Instead of answering it himself, Tyson Fury decided to call John to answer the question. John expressed unwavering admiration for ‘Iron’ Mike as he named his son after him. However, he claimed he is a fighter at heart and is ready to fight Mike in Saudi. “Listen, let me tell you this much. I respect Mike Tyson, and I name me [my] son after him. But I’m a fighting man. I got a warrior’s heart. I’m in Saudi. Bring it on,” said John.

Later, Tyson probed John, asking him how much time does he need to prepare for the fight. In response, John declared he would fight Mike Tyson the next day. John went as far as to claim they are old men and they don’t need a training camp to prepare for the fight. “None! I can go tomorrow. We’re old men, we don’t need training camps. We don’t need nothing. Let’s fight now. We’ll get it on the 23rd. Me and you,” said John.

John reacts to Ngannou’s open workout

Tyson Fury will go toe-to-toe with Francis Ngannou on 28 October in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. However, before the fight, Francis Ngannou appeared to showcase his skill in a media day workout alongside Mike Tyson. Interestingly, Ngannou failed to impress John Fury as he took to Instagram to share his thoughts. Fury hoped Ngannou was not serious about the workout session because if that’s all Ngannou has to offer, he will lose the upcoming fight.

“I hope that’s a joke and intended to be a laugh. Because if it’s not, he ain’t got a prayer. He ain’t got a cat in hell’s chance,” said Fury. He went as far as to suggest Ngannou won’t make it past the first round, and it will be the fastest win for Tyson Fury. “He won’t get out of the first round. It’s probably going to be Tyson’s quickest knockout,” said Fury.
