Former WBC and IBF world champion Amir Khan and Anthony Joshua were once good friends. However, their equation changed when the former publically accused Joshua of sleeping with his wife. In 2017, Khan took to social media to address the issue, claiming that his wife Faryal Makhdoom was having an affair with Joshua, and the pair were getting a divorce due to the same.

This resulted in the then friends cutting ties with each other and going their separate ways. However, reflecting back on the time, Khan expressed his regret over his actions. In an interview with Gary Neville, ‘King’ revealed that he felt sorry after accusing his friend and that the two haven’t spoken since the same. “I mean, he was a friend of mine and since then we’ve never spoken. So I lost a good friend through that as well,” said Khan.
Amir Khan reveals why he accused Anthony Joshua
Amir stated that he and his wife were going through some problems in their relationship back then. The situation only escalated after Khan’s wife taunted him in an argument by showing him the messages she had received from Joshua. “So my wife — I and her were not talking — and she sent a message saying ‘look so many fighters messaging me and because she showed me a message of Anthony Joshua saying hi to her or something, I lost it. I said ‘Who the hell’s he, saying hi to my wife,’ even though he was cool with me.”

However, he realized that the only person to blame here was himself. He claimed that Joshua was respectful towards him, but he could not understand it at that point in time. He also stated that he was ‘selfish’ and didn’t want to take anybody’s advice. “I just flipped out on everyone. And all my mates were, ‘Are you mad, you just tweeted something.’ But he’s a nice guy. Even his own personal friends were calling me. I was like ‘No, don’t want to talk to you guys. I become too selfish, I started making a lot of mistakes,” he said.
In hindsight, Khan did make some mistakes in the past that he deeply regrets now. However, he realized his shortcomings and is now working towards improving them, which is commendable.

Moreover, Khan will now be rooting for his former friend as rumors of a potential fight between Joshua and Tyson Fury have surfaced online. It is reported that the two have agreed to fight on December 3rd, later this year, in a heavyweight showdown.
