A resurgence is being promised by George Kambosos Jr. The Australian boxer will face Maxi Hughes for the IBO world Lightweight title on 22 July. Kambosos Jr. has the opportunity to become a champion after being dethroned by the current undisputed champion, Devin Haney.

The fight is massive, and the stakes are high. But Kambosos Jr. is far from intimidated. His training regime in Las Vegas has been well-documented and appears to be in great physical condition. Maxi Hughes is a veteran of the sport; boasts a record of 26 victories, 5 defeats and 2 draws. Safe to say that the current IBO world Lightweight champion is an experienced boxer. However, Kambosos Jr. thinks that his skillset would outweigh Hughes’ experience and dethrone him from his title. Not to mention, Kambosos Jr. has faced formidable opponents for his last three bouts. So, it would be fair to say that the Australian boxer is experienced in his own right.

At the weigh-in, the 30-year-old was vehemently facing off against Hughes. On Instagram, he posted a series of pictures and claimed that he would be victorious with ease. He stated, “Tomorrow FEROCIOUS Is Back!!! And I’m Taking His Belt Straight Off Him”

The former champion has the opportunity to win a title again. However, he does not foresee winning just the IBO title but all the undisputed Lightweight titles.

George claims the Lightweight title will be vacant soon

Devin Haney has hinted to move up in weight class after his last fight. In that instance, the undisputed champion would have to vacate his belts. Although his next fight is not made official, Kambosos thinks that the Haney will eventually move up and vacate the titles. “I believe Haney is gonna move up to 140, lightweight titles will be vacant,” said Kambosos Jr. In addition, Kambosos Jr. asserts that he would be the one to attain the titles after they are vacant. He stated, “Despite the setback, I aim to become a world champion again by the end of the year”.
