Joe Joyce has a very clear approach towards a possible clash against Oleksandr Usyk for the WBO (Interim) heavyweight title. He is unwilling to accept low pay for such a massive fight. While Usyk seems to hold more stardom on his corner, his manager favors a 93/7 purse split up in favor of the Ukrainian legend.

This massive difference in PPV share clearly didn’t sit well with ‘Juggernaut’ and he hesitated to accept the fight. Although he appeared interested in facing Usyk, Joe Joyce isn’t keen do it for just 7% of the revenue. In an interaction with Behind The Gloves, ‘Juggernaut’ addressed the whole scenario.

“I am not taking 7%, are you joking? I think his manager or promoter was saying like, Usyk used to get like 93% or some bollocks,” said ‘The Juggernaut’.

He added, “I think it was a statement that he made or something like. I don’t know.”

Although Joe Joyce doesn’t seem pleased with the offer, Usyk’s team has been adamant on their side and has passed no update to the fight. So, the WBO Interim title clash may take some more time to materialize.

Oleksandr Usyk vs Joe Joyce- More depth into the rivalry

Following a successful heavyweight entry against Derek Chisora, Usyk earned his spot amongst the elites. Meanwhile, Joe Joyce vanquished Daniel Dubois to earn his spot. While the two are now touted to lock horns, Usyk’s proposal of a 93-7 purse split can disrupt the proposed interim strap clash.

Speaking with Sky Sports, manager Alexander Krassyuk had said, “It should look like 93 per cent in favour of Usyk. The minimum allowed by the WBO is 80/20. Unless the split is officially fixed, any negotiations make no sense as they would not lead to an agreement. The WBO is a well-respected sanctioning body where I am honoured to be a member of for many years as are many other promoters.”

While Joyce has also passed his ultimate statement, both sides need to come under the terms. If they fail, it might take away another blockbuster fight from the fans.

Looking at the current heavyweight scenario, Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will fight twice for the world titles and will be occupied throughout 2021. Hence, Usyk and Joyce will have a lot of time to settle their contractual differences.
