It’s been three weeks since Barclays Center saw Gervonta Davis desperately trying to defend his WBA lightweight title for the second time against Lamont Roach Jr. One fighter was laser-focused on securing victory, while the other? Well, let’s just say the match was a mere stepping stone for him, and onto the next. Big mistake, right? It now looks like another fight had all but been lined up for Tank, if it weren’t for Roach.

We all know weight classes exist for a reason, but when Jake Paul’s name enters the conversation, logic tends to take a backseat. Jake Paul stormed into boxing with two things on his agenda—rake in massive paydays and fight big names. Some watch because they’re fans of the YouTuber-turned-boxer. Others? They just hope to see him get humbled by real fighters. Either way, the views—and the paychecks—keep rolling in. Now, rumor has it that the Problem Child was in talks for a bout with none other than Gervonta Davis. Sounds ridiculous, right? Well, a veteran boxing journalist just confirmed the rumor.

The fight that just couldn’t be

A few hours ago, Dan Rafael took to X and wrote, Sources: @Gervontaa – @jakepaul exhibition was in works until @OneOf1x draw; Tank instead invokes rematch right, June sequel planned.” Yes, you read that right. But since the fight ended in a draw, that plan got tossed out the window quickly.

“They were definitely talking, they were absolutely 100% talking that [had] Tank Davis won that fight against Lamont Roach, I think it would have been a very good bet that they were going to do a fight between Jake Paul and Tank Davis,” Rafael told Boxing News.

After the New York State Athletic Commission shut down Roach’s appeal, the only logical step was a rematch. Not just for Davis, but for everyone. Because let’s be real, this isn’t just about settling a score. It’s about proving who hits harder. Either way, according to the 54-year-old, if Tank Davis had won that night, his next move would’ve been an exhibition fight against the 11-1 boxer.

Multiple sources told Fight Freaks Unite that talks were already happening behind the scenes, but after the draw, the Baltimore native had to scrap those plans, since he had a contractual right to an immediate rematch in case of a loss or a draw—and he wasn’t about to let that go.

What’s your perspective on:

Would Jake Paul actually stand a chance against Gervonta Davis, or is this just a money grab?

Now, the rematch is reportedly being lined up for either June 21 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas or June 28 in Atlanta or Miami. Anyway, moving back to Jake Paul, if you notice carefully, everything was right in front of our eyes. Jake Paul wasn’t just a casual spectator at the Barclays Center that night. He was there on business. He wanted to get a front-row look at the 30-0 boxer because their teams were already in talks for a summer showdown. And in case you forgot, Tank already gave the green light for the fight.

Gervonta Davis had his eyes on Jake Paul first

Gervonta Davis has been thinking about retirement. But like so many fighters before him, he might want to go out with a bang before hanging up the gloves for good. Sure, he shut down Shakur Stevenson claiming he hadn’t done enough for the sport of boxing. But when it comes to Jake Paul? That’s a different story.

Because let’s be honest—Gervonta Davis is smart. He knows where the real money is. After the March 1st fight, he was asked who he would’ve called into the ring if he had won. His response? “I think he was here. He came in my locker room.” When the reporter guessed Shakur Stevenson, Davis quickly shut it down, saying, “He wasn’t in my locker room.” Then someone blurted out Jake Paul’s name. And Tank? He just smirked and said, “Next question.”

At first, people thought he was just joking around. But if you’ve been paying attention, this whole thing actually started way back—right after Jake Paul’s bizarre fight with Mike Tyson last year. Like many, Tank was not happy with the outcome. He jumped on social media and went off: “I’ll beat the brakes off of him,” Davis wrote. “When I catch him, uppercut, jab, left hook, uppercut then just watch.”

And Jake Paul, being Jake Paul, when asked about it in his post-fight press conference, laughed it off and said: “Yeah I mean I’d be down to fight, let’s run it. Is there a height limit in boxing?” And just like that, the seeds were planted.

Now, the real question—if this fight actually happens, does Jake Paul stand a chance against Gervonta Davis? Do share your thoughts with us below.
