Shakur Stevenson is only moments away from stepping inside the ring with Edwin De Los Santos for a fight that will witness the emergence of the new WBC Lightweight champion in the sport. On that occasion, before the commencement of the bout in Las Vegas, former four-division world champion Adrien Broner offered Shakur his support.
While Santos recently insulted Shakur by branding him “Shakira Tweetson,” Broner believed that Stevenson was one of the “baddest fighters” who could even put unbeaten WBA Lightweight title holder Gervonta Davis in a fix. In this context, hoping Shakur would win a title in only his second fight at 135 lbs, Broner encouraged the former’s spirit.

In the recent past, Broner entertained the idea of Shakur squaring off against Davis. Given the fact that he has trained with both Shakur and ‘Tank,’ Broner felt it would be a memorable match if the duo ever shared the ring. While he felt, ‘Tank’ would still manage to win, Broner stated Shakur’s talent was different and would subsequently give ‘Tank’ “his toughest match” ever in boxing. In this context, as Shakur now faced Edwin Santos with the WBC Lightweight title on the line, Broner hoped the 26-year-old would win it before facing Davis.
As a result, taking to Instagram, in one of his stories, ‘The Problem,’ who will return with Don King’s boxing extravaganza on December 2, shared a photo of himself with Shakur. “Let’s go to work,” he wrote. At this, while Broner wished Stevenson victory ahead of a potential fight with Davis, it is worthy of notice that Edwin claimed both ‘Tank’ and Devin Haney were ahead of Shakur.

Edwin feels Shakur is not as complete as ‘Tank’ or Haney
In a recent interview, Edwin excluded Stevenson from his list of complete fighters. Although he praised Davis and Haney, he called Stevenson incomplete. Likewise, speaking about the three fighters, Santos said, “For me, I would say Gervonta Davis. Because of the quality of boxing he has and his punching power. But I would also be satisfied with saying, Devin Haney.”
