Many have doubted Teofimo Lopez for a while now, since his defeat at the hands of George Kambosos Jr., But he was able to shun all the doubters with his performance against Josh Taylor as he won against the Brit via unanimous decision. Lopez put up a thrilling show and became the WBO light-welterweight champion of the world, adding to the value of his boxing resume. It is safe to say that Lopez has one of the most exceptional boxing records at a young age. But it seems like the champion is considering leaving the sport for good. Lopez made an announcement after his win over Taylor. But, it seems like others have special plans for him.

After his win over Taylor, Tefimo Lopez Sr. made a call out for Gervonta Davis. And branded it as the fight he would like for his son next. But, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions had some other thoughts about this potential fight. And, slammed Lopez Sr. for his claim.

In an interview with BoxingScene, Teofimo Lopez Sr. revealed that he is interested in a fight with ‘Tank’ for his son. He said, “I respect ‘Tank’, he has a powerful left hand, but he needs to go to the top dogs. We’re right there, we’re waiting for him.” However, it seems like this call-out did not sit well with Ellerbe, who took to Twitter to take a dig at Lopez Sr.

Ellerbe wrote,He’s probably the most delusional mf I’ve ever seen in boxing. Ellerbe being Ellerbe, certainly knows how to slam callouts and is not hesitant to share his honest opinion. However, this call out from Lopez Sr. contradicts his son’s retirement claim.

Even though many personalities have come forward to show their praise for the 25-year-old after his sensational victory, ‘The Takeover’ seems interested in hanging his boxing gloves and spending time with his family. After the fight, Lopez made it clear that he is considering retirement. He said, “What’s next, maybe retirement. I need to take some time I really want to help the kids out in the boxing world. But, we’ll think about it.”

However, a confirmation about this move is yet to be made from his side. Until then, the chief of ‘Golden Boy Promotions’ Oscar De La Hoya, has something in mind for Lopez.

Oscar De La Hoya’s plans for Lopez

‘The Golden Boy’ took to Twitter to congratulate Teofimo Lopez on his victory and claimed that he knew Lopez would be the one victorious. But, congratulating him for his victory seemingly was not the only thing on De La Hoya’s mind. He then asked Lopez to ask his promoter to contact him. It seems like De La Hoya already has a fight in mind for the new light welterweight champion.
