A few past controversies occupy as much headlines as Mike Tyson and Kevin Rooney’s. It’s no stranger news that ‘Iron Mike’ testified in court that he ended his professional ties with Kevin Rooney. He did this because Rooney spoke on TV about Tyson’s ex-wife, Robin Givens. Tyson saw these comments as a betrayal. Furthermore, Rooney sued Tyson in 1988, asking for $49 million in earnings. He said that Tyson’s mentor, Cus D’Amato, planned for him to train Tyson for life. However, ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ denied ever making such a contract with Rooney.
Tyson also challenged Rooney’s earlier claims that his boxing skills had declined. He noted that he had just escaped jail and had already won two championships. Recently, fans have triggered the memories of their tumultuous history in a recently resurfaced video. They even blamed Rooney’s absence as the reason behind Mike’s loss to Buster Douglas. Even after 30 years, it remains one of the biggest upsets in boxing history.

30 years on: Fans still reeling from Mike Tyson’s ‘biggest upset’ fight
In the video, we see ‘Kid Dynamite’ being knocked out by Greg Page, the former heavyweight champion. Following this, in 1990, Mike Tyson suffered his first defeat, marking a historic upset. Buster Douglas used his long reach and jab to win early rounds. Douglas started to take control, but Tyson fought back in the eighth round. Tyson knocked Douglas down, who barely got up in time. However, Buster recovered and knocked out the youngest heavyweight champion in the tenth round.
Therefore, fans swamped the post with their varying viewpoints after the clip started going viral. One fan pointed out that if one had read Tyson’s book, one would have realized he was engaging in detrimental behavior in Japan before the fight, making it surprising he even made it to the ring.
If you ready Tyson’s book you should see what he was doing in Japan it’s a wonder he even walked to the Ring anything bad a fighter can do he was doing basically

Additionally, another fan emphasized that the absence of Kevin Rooney, Tyson’s former trainer, was glaringly evident in the lead-up to this bout.
Never was the absence of Kevin Rooney more obvious than the build up to this fight

This sentiment was echoed by another fan who believed that Tyson shouldn’t have fought that night due to poor management and corner support.
He should have not fought that night vs Douglass. Horrible corner and manager

Moreover, a user speculated that the original opponent was supposed to be Ruddock and wondered how history might have been different if that fight hadn’t been canceled.
Think it was originally Ruddock two months earlier for Mike until it got cancelled. Who knows how history would have played out. Page was always crafty. Probably lots of this never seen.

A follower shared a personal anecdote about training at the same gym as Greg Page, appreciating the pointers he gave and expressing gratitude for the shared video of a sparring session.
Greg occasionally trained at the gym I went to as an amateur boxer and never missed a chance to give us some pointers in the ring. I remember him talking about this sparring session but never knew there was video of it. Thanks for posting!
