Jake Paul slams Secret Service—Are they failing to protect high-profile events?

45th President of the United States Donald Trump was the target of an assassination attempt on Saturday during a rally in Pennsylvania. The horrific incident transpired days before he was going to accept the Republican nomination for the third time. Enraged by this event, influencer turned boxer Jake Paul and former WBC super lightweight champion Devin Haney have expressed their disdain online.

Right after the barrage of gunfire, a panic set off the crowd gathered at the rally, as a bloodied Trump revealed he was shot in the ear. Within seconds, the presidential candidate was surrounded by the Secret Service and hurried to Trump’s SUV, as the former president pumped his fist in the air as a show of defiance.

Trump is reportedly doing fine since the attack, and has revealed that the bullet pierced the upper part of his right ear. Meanwhile, the FBI has revealed Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania was the individual responsible for the shooting.

Besides Trump’s injury, one attendee has lost his life while two were critically injured during the shooting. The Secret Service has claimed that the shooter has been neutralized, who attacked from an elevated position outside the venue of the rally. This attack was the most serious assassination attempt of a presidential candidate since Ronald Reagan was shot in 1981.

So, it drew widespread attention from the country and the world beyond. Jake Paul hopped on X early Sunday to write, “Wtf the secret service doesn’t start shooting until after the shooter did? This has so many red flags. Sniper was 150 yards out. Protocol for [the] secret service is to have [the] entire perimeter 500 yards out covered. His detail got compromised, or this was a mishap of epic proportions.”

Even Devin Haney expressed his surprise as to how the authorities failed to secure the parameter properly before Trump’s speech in the rally. Haney wrote, “Nah.. nobody saw this n***a wtf??” In the meantime, Trump’s rival Joe Biden has shared his thoughts on the entire ordeal.

Immediately after the incident, Trump flew to New Jersey, but not before visiting a local Pennsylvania hospital because of his injury. A video was posted by an aide of Trump landing at Newark Liberty International Airport, as he was escorted by the US secret service agents and heavily armed agents of the agency. The White House revealed that Biden, who is running against Trump in the upcoming elections, spoke to Trump hours after the incident.

Later addressing this attempt at Trump’s life, Biden said, “There’s no place in America for this type of violence… It’s sick. It’s sick”. Despite this, many Republicans were quick to point fingers at Biden and his allies, especially highlighting some comments made by Biden previously. Biden told donors on July 8th, “It’s time to put Trump in the bullseye”.

The shooting incident and security lapses that allowed it to happen will most likely take over the media in the coming days as more details about the shooter’s motives comes to light. But for now, the comments from Jake Paul and Devin Haney perfectly express the anger and surprise the country has about the incident. Share your thoughts about it in the comments below.
