Several fans and boxing experts have started to bill Oleksandr Usyk as a threat to the heavyweight division after his unanimous win against Derek Chisora on October 31. The former cruiserweight champion has also called out unified champion Anthony Joshua after the fight and vowed to become the next unified champion of the division. However, not everyone is a fan of a heavyweight Oleksandr Usyk.

There’s no denying that the Ukrainian is a skilled boxer and is one of the best on the active roster. Despite that, many believe that he is not suitable for the heavyweight unit. Former middleweight champion Carl Froch is one of those people who believes that Usyk will not have a great time in the bigger weight class. He criticized his latest performance against Chisora.

It might be too early to predict a future for Usyk amongst the heavyweights. He still has a lot of tests ahead, but fight fans and experts have been in a rush to draft a possible future for the ‘Cat Olek’.

Combat reporter Michael Benson posted a tweet and quoted the former middleweight champion’s take on Usyk’s chances against the best of the division.

Benson wrote, “For me, Chisora, he exposed Usyk for what he is at heavyweight. He’s quite an ordinary heavyweight. When he was asked, ‘Are you going to be heavyweight world champion?’ He said, ‘Undisputed.’ I don’t think so, son. Not on that performance.”

When looking back at Usyk’s performance against Chisora, fans may have noticed that the Ukrainian couldn’t offer much from his end. He dictated the fight and landed prominent shots, but it is not enough to grab a heavyweight world title. That said, it’s unfair to rule him out so soon.

Boasting an undefeated professional record of 18 wins (13 KOs), Usyk is one of the finest active boxers. He needs to assure the fans that he can translate his dominance to heavyweight. To achieve this objective, he will have to accept a few more fights. What do you make of the former champion’s take on Usyk’s heavyweight bow?
