Few names in boxing are as well-known as Floyd Mayweather Jr. Mayweather has been a dominant force in the sport for years, because of his outstanding unbeaten record, flamboyant lifestyle, and outspoken demeanor. But what happens when a former boxer criticizes Mayweather’s continued participation in the sport? That’s exactly what happened during a recent interview with Nate Jones, a former professional boxer and current trainer.

The commentary made by Jones regarding Mayweather’s career trajectory may have caught certain fans off guard, but it certainly adds a new and distinct perspective to the already illustrious career of one of the sport’s most iconic and legendary figures. Jones’ thoughts on Mayweather still fighting

During a recent interview, Nate Jones was asked, You say please tell Floyd stop fighting and keep promoting young and upcoming boxers, Floyd gonna do what he gonna do mate.” Jones expressed that he believes Mayweather is still not ready to fully let go of the sport, but he also acknowledged that Mayweather is only focused on making money, having fun, and doing things his way.

Jones didn’t mince words when he said, “Floyd ain’t let the game go all the way yet, but he didn’t send the money man. He’s just making money, stealing money, having fun, doing it his way, you know.” Jones also pointed out that he didn’t feel like anyone could tell Mayweather to stop, but that he would eventually come to his own realization.

What’s next for Floyd Mayweather?

Retirement seems like a foreign concept to Floyd Mayweather, as the retired boxing champion has recently announced his plan for five more exhibition fights in different countries around the world in 2023. Mayweather, who has already been involved in six exhibitions since retiring from professional boxing with an unbeaten record of 50-0, intends to continue making easy money.

He knocked out kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in Japan on New Year’s Eve 2018 and fought a full eight-round exhibition match with YouTuber Logan Paul in 2021. In 2022, he fought three more times, beating his former sparring partner Don Moore in Abu Dhabi, MMA fighter Mikuru Asakura in Japan, and YouTube star Deji in Dubai, UAE.

Mayweather’s schedule for 2023 includes five more planned contests in South Korea, Germany, Japan, Australia, and the USA, with a potential fight against Jake Paul.
