Following the breakout of Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn looking forward to potentially locking horns on 3rd June in Abu Dhabi, the general secretary of the British Boxing Board of Control, Robert Smith declared the strict need for applying for permission concerning those who held a British license but desired to participate in a tournament held abroad. If otherwise, Smith cautioned about a fine, suspension, and even potential withdrawal of licenses.

Although Smith declared permission might be withheld, he assured they wouldn’t “unreasonably withhold it”. In a clear statement, he demanded applications from Benn’s team if they desired to travel to Abu Dhabi. As reported by The Guardian, he said, “his trainers do, and anyone else in his team who is a British Boxing Board license holder – we need to have an application for them to go [to Abu Dhabi]”.

As soon as Michael Benson shared the news via tweet, several fans reacted to it. In fact, a significant number of them were content with the assertion made by BBBofC. While some expressed joy at BBBofC “getting a grip” on UK Boxing, others dragged in Benn’s promoter Eddie Hearn who had lately shown interest in staging a fight outside the UK. According to user @boxing420uk, the BBBofC is “finally getting a grip” on UK boxing.

In the recent past, in an interview with iD Boxing, Eddie Hearn shed light on Benn’s upcoming opponents in boxing. While he showed aversion to the Kell Brook fight since it would be in the UK, he emphasized negotiations with Manny Pacquiao. Considering the recent statements made by Robert Smith, user @OnionRingFroch called Hearn “the corrupt criminal” and spoke about his license being revoked.

Likewise, user @ecw787 appreciated the move by BBBofC. “An overwhelming majority of fans support the BBBofC on this,” they said.
