After his ferocious return against Robert Helenius last year, Deontay Wilder broke down at the post-fight press conference. In tears, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ showed concern for Helenius’ health and stated that boxing fans did not understand what the athletes went through in the sport. By the by, Wilder referred to Prichard Colon, who got paralyzed after getting hit with illegal shots in the ring.

Wilder, who considered himself “an advocate for us [boxers]“, having burst into tears, sympathized with Colon’s condition. “This man will never have a natural living again because he got in the ring to support his family. Now, his family have got to take care of him for the rest of his life,” said Wilder. In addition, Wilder expressed sorrow at the thought that Colon would never be a father. Along these lines, the former heavyweight champion doubted if Robert would remain the same after the “great” and “devastating” knockout he just suffered.

After stopping Robert Helenius in the first round with a vicious knockout, which Wilder celebrated, Deontay declared that he hoped Helenius was “okay“. At the post-fight presser, he said, “Yeah, it’s a great knockout; it’s devastating, but how much is that man gonna suffer?” While Wilder labeled himself an advocate for boxers and showed concern for the ways in which fighters labored and abused their bodies in professional boxing, fans called him out for wanting “a body on my record” at the same time.

A fan took to Twitter and shared a brief clip of Wilder interacting with Radio Rahim from Seconds Out. In the clip, Wilder is heard saying that he wants a body after all the “pain” and “frustration” in his career.

According to one user, “The double standards are crazy“. As per them, “Matchroom will be crying if that same Helenius beats Joshua“.
