Is the resolution between Turki Alalshikh and boxing journalists a sign of maturity in sports media?

HE Turki Alalshikh usually remains calm and carries a smile whenever he meets the boxing community. However, that changed drastically when he sparked an online feud with Jake Donovan. The reason? The two saw differently how the Terence Crawford vs. Israil Madrimov event went down.

Donovan turned to his X handle and, in a now-deleted post drew parallels between the Floyd Mayweather vs. John Gotti III rematch card. The boxing journalist believed both the cards were overstretched. Notably, Crawford vs. Madrimov even had Eminem performing and some other festivities to keep the fans engaged. But it seems it didn’t sit down with Donovan. HE Turki Alalshikh responded to this post and went into a spat with him, even calling him a “coward” in a couple of posts.

When the issue escalated, Donovan deleted the posts, and that also didn’t escape the Saudi Adviser’s scathing fire. Calling shots at Donovan, he wrote, “You deleted the tweet half an hour ago and if you kept it wouldn’t have meant anything. The only thing worth in your account is ring magazine name.” However, a mutual of two helped break peace between the two, and the Ring magazine journalist declared the same in his latest post.

Donovan’s post read, “For those asking, a mutual friend reached out both to Turki Alalshikh and myself. While we didn’t speak directly, we both agreed to remove our posts and move forward. I appreciate everyone’s continued support both on a professional and personal level. ✌🏼 ☮️.”

HE Turki Alalshikh also turned to the comment section and wrote, “👍🥊👏🏻,” suggesting his agreement with the same. Interestingly, the 43-year-old is already working on his upcoming events, including the likes of Anthony Joshua and Artur Beterbiev, in these coming two months. He is also ready to slash the prices and curb the menace of illegal streaming.

The GEA chairman laid down his vision and declared, “People [watch] illegally because the price is high. This is in the future will not build boxing. If I give good fights with a good price I will increase the fanbase.” It remains to be seen how bringing down the PPV prices will help boxing add more fans and not rack up losses in the events.
