There’s no light at the end of this tunnel. But it remains one of boxing’s most coveted sequels. One more month, and it will be two years since Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia fought an epic thriller at the T-Mobile Arena. Down the line, things have changed. On March 1, Davis will face Lamont Roach Jr. for yet another title defense. On the other hand, after the infamous Haney debacle, Garcia is preparing for a grand return in May.

Amidst an array of potential matchups, talks of a fight between the two big draws ebbed and flowed. As the new year approached, both fighters bantered, hinting at a rematch. But later, putting his foot down, Davis reportedly demanded a hefty payout for a rematch. Tranquility apparently broke when Davis spilled the beans on one of the most hotly contested topics of the Garcia episode.

Gervonta Davis: He put you all in a tough spot

Some twenty minutes after they started talking, Baltimore-based multimedia journalist Jay Hill brought up last year’s fight between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia. According to him, Haney took a ‘bad L,’ which supposedly affected his standing compared to other fighters. Referencing Ryan Garcia, who fought both Davis and Haney, Hill checked whether ‘Tank’ ever felt Haney might not be on the same level as him. “When you see that, does it get there? Like, man, you see what I did to Ryan, and you see what he did to you,” he asked.

Gervonta Davis responded by dangling a question mark over Haney’s credentials. He acknowledged Haney was ‘undisputed.’ But on the same token, he downplayed the feat by implying Haney carefully ‘picked’ his fights. “That’s what makes me like, all right. What’s to prove, bro? There’s like nothing to prove….You know what I’ll do to Devin, so there’s no point in fighting him,” said the lightweight champion.

Jay Hill probed further, “Okay, but again, this is for the people, right? I’m being real, but then you got some people saying when you fought Ryan, it was the catchweight, so he was drained.” Now, that’s a common criticism of that fight. Many commented that Garcia wasn’t at his best due to the weight stipulations.

Gervonta Davis refuted the claim that Ryan Garcia was drained. He argued that Garcia was actually in great shape and eating normally before the fight. ‘Tank’ insisted that Garcia exaggerated his struggles with weight-cutting to make excuses for losing. “He tricked the people like, yeah, I’m draining. No, you wasn’t,” insisted ‘Tank’ Davis.

To make a case, Davis pointed out that Garcia was partying and drinking before fighting Haney, yet still managed to beat him. This means if Garcia wasn’t even taking training seriously and still won, then Haney’s performance was even worse.

Should Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia settle their score in the ring once and for all?

Have an interesting take?

If you look at the fight, he was much slower. He only threw a hook. He thought he was going to tie him down and catch him with a good shot and sh*t like that,Gervonta Davis said.

The verbal sparring over the rematch

The revelation follows the year-end banter between Garcia and Gervonta Davis. Roughly around the time when he celebrated his thirtieth birthday, a few followers checked for the Garcia rematch. Before he deleted the message, Gervonta Davis curtly replied, “Yes, it will.” In response, Garcia delivered a sharp rejoinder, “Time to settle this the right way!!!

Later, during an Instagram live session, Davis added, “I’ll tax that a** again. Tell them boys to give me $150 million. I’m coming.” Now, after publicly declaring his intentions to retire, Davis recently stated he is expecting to enter the ring at least three times this year. So after Lamont Roach Jr., he may have slots open for two more clashes. If Shakur Stevenson fills the first, then will Garcia occupy the remaining one?

What about you? Do you think Garcia and Davis should regroup for a second edition or just let it pass for good?
