Unified lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez has been feuding with Team Mayweather’s Gervonta Davis for several years. The unbeaten world champions can be the perfect opponents for each other. Unfortunately, they are still far from meeting in the ring.

Teofimo Lopez will face George Kambosos Jr. on November 27 to defend his lightweight straps. A week later, Gervonta Davis will defend his WBA belt against Rolando Romero. With defenses this close to each other, their feud looks fresh once again. However, Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe doesn’t see Lopez as a viable figure.

Being Gervonta Davis’ promoter, Ellerbe opened up on Teofimo Lopez in an interaction with the ES News.

“I don’t pay that no attention because he is a good young fighter. I am wishing him nothing but the best. But him and his pops are delusional, as related to the business. They don’t know the first thing about the business. They actually said there gonna be 2 million buys with their fight. 2 million buys!”

“I have never been in the A-side, the A-side in a main event. You never sold a ticket. They are tempted to try to sell the tickets, you know. He thought actually he was bigger than Floyd Mayweather. It’s just delusional. I mean again, I don’t even feel bad for guys like that,” said Leonard Ellerbe.

Teofimo Lopez and the Triller saga

After a sensational victory against Vasyl Lomachenko, Lopez won the belts for the first time in his professional boxing career. Subsequently, he felt underpaid with Bob Arum’s company and opted to go for a purse bid. Triller bagged the chance and reportedly offered over $6 million to ‘Take Over’.

The fight saw five postponements, following which Triller washed their hands off the same. Hence, Matchroom took over and this bout will now happen on November 27 at the MSG, New York. Boxing fans may still be apprehensive about the same and may not believe that the bout is on unless the bell rings to start round 1.

If Lopez wins, will he respond to Ellerbe and challenge ‘Tank’? Or will he lose and fade into oblivion?
