Floyd Mayweather doesn’t shy away from expressing his opinions. Recently, he spoke about a rising star in the boxing world. This fighter has caught his eye for many reasons. Further, ‘Pretty Boy’ believes he is poised to rival Gervonta Davis. If Mayweather acknowledges this boxer and draws parallels with his own style, then indeed, he is quite worthy.
Indeed, Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis is making waves in the boxing world. He holds a 29-0 record with 27 KOs. Further, Davis is a three-division world champion, and his knockout ratio is off the charts. So, who is this fighter that could match up to Davis? Moreover, Mayweather’s words carry significant weight. Additionally, his praise for this boxer comes with a challenge and a hint of criticism.

Floyd Mayweather recently commented about Naoya Inoue. He thinks Inoue could be a good fit for fighting Davis. Further in an interview with Fight Hype, he said, “I think he’s [Naoya Inoue] a helluva fighter. He takes a lot of stuff from my playbook. But it’s okay, you’re supposed to take from the greats. I would like to see him fight Gervonta Davis at a catchweight.”
Mayweather compared Inoue’s style to his own. However, ‘Money’ openly acknowledges Inoue’s genius. Additionally, Mayweather’s analogy has gained enough traction from fans.
Robert Ohrvall started the conversation with a critical view, stating, “Floyd must need money, he wants Tank to fight everybody.”
Luke Cole then adds his own perspective to the matchup, saying, “Would be Tank’s most dangerous fight to date, Whoever gets their hand raised won’t be a judge’s decision.”
Further, Bernardino Sebastian, remarks, “Next to impossible, Naoya is too small… 147 vs 128, it’s Welter vs feather..?”
Then, Thomas Waltz asserted, “Floyd tries to act like Inoue can’t be clean now that he moved up to 122 (and beat an American in Japan). Maybe Manny used roids (from 130 to early on at 147), but Inoue and Manny are different people, from different countries. Floyd just doesn’t like that Inoue is starting to be called a #1 or #2 pfp fighter. The guy just moved up to 122. Tank fought at 136 last time, has fought at 140, so why doesn’t Floyd call for Tank vs Crawford for #1 pfp fight at a 144 lbs catchweight? (Cause it would take too much thought for Floyd to think that way). Floyd could call for Inoue to fight someone at 126 and have VADA testing for that fight, other than that, Floyd should hush.”
Moreover, Jawon Corona stated, “You’ll beat a smaller Inoue and then rave about how you won against a number 2 ranking P4p fighter. This fight doesn’t happen until about a year or 2.”
