Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney‘s history goes way back. They are ready to start another chapter as they are getting closer to meeting once again. This time in their pro careers. While the fans have witnessed the fierce verbal spat between them, their punches had a similar effect. So much so that once ‘KingRy’ busted ‘The Dream’s eardrum during amateur days.
The headliner clash between Garcia, at 24-1, and Haney, at 31-0, has the spice of history to top it off. Their rivalry since childhood will add another layer of excitement to their clash, as they have met six times, each claiming three wins. Their seventh bout will decide the fate of the super lightweight division next, and Garcia knows he could “hurt his [Haney’s] as*”.

Ryan Garcia went down memory lane in a conversation with FightHype. When asked about the times he gave Haney an eight-count and how he burst his eardrum once, Garcia recalled the incident. Garcia said, “That was from his own team.”
The American boxer continued, “They came up to my dad and said Devin was complaining because he thinks he popped his eardrum or something along those lines. Yeah, so I hit him with that shot. It was in North Carolina; I believe. Junior Olympic. I came at him off the rip. Boom, boom, boom. Dropping bombs on him.”
Garcia has carved out an image of a hard hitter and has a fearsome left hook. Meanwhile, Haney has thrived on his technical prowess. It’s no wonder Garcia caught him with thunderous punches that left him hurt. But that’s not the extent of their rivalry. Earlier in the conversation, Garcia also delved deep into their history.
Ryan Garcia has fought ‘The Dream’ since 7
The 25-year-old recalled that he and Haney had known each other since they were kids, and they had fought each other since. “I mean, known each other since what seven, eight, nine years old. I mean, fought our whole lives together. [Fought] six times. We are three and three,” Garcia said.

However, Haney left off with a victory as he went pro. But now they can go blow-for-blow for the seventh time. “We could do it in the pros for seven. But when I beat his as* in the amateurs, I hurt his as*. He knows it, too,” Garcia added.
