Is Floyd Mayweather right about exhibition matches being a no-win situation for him?

Floyd Mayweather Jr. never backs down from a challenge, even if it’s from one of the greatest Mexican boxers of all time. The 50-0 boxer still carries the zeal and passion for sweet science, as he puts on a show for the fans. What if the next time is against Julio Cesar Chavez Sr.? He is not shying away from entertaining it, but there is an issue.

Chavez Sr., 62, recently ignited rumors of him stepping into the boxing ring, as he suggested going up against Mayweather Jr., 47 on September 16. He believed there could be a shot. So, when presented with the same question and proposition to Mayweather, he was a bit reluctant.

‘Pretty Boy,’ hypothetically, could be seen as facing Chavez Sr., who holds a record of 107-6, but would do so against a boxer 15 years his senior. If he does well in the bout, it would be against an aging fighter, which wouldn’t earn him much respect. If he does badly, it would still be against an aging boxer, raising doubts about his abilities and progress as a boxer.

Mayweather Jr. heaped praise on Chavez Sr. and told Fight Hub TV, “Oh well, you know, I take my hat off to Chavez Sr. He’s a legend in the sport of boxing. He’s one of the guys that opened up the door for myself. But, of course, I’m still in tiptop condition and he’s a lot older now, you know. Even when we was younger that would have been a great matchup.”

“But you just never know. I heard that he posted us and talk[ed] about us doing a fight. But I’d be in a no-win situation if I did that,” ‘The Best Ever’ admitted openly. If they end up fighting, this won’t be the first time a Mayweather clashes with Chavez Sr.
