April 22 will remain etched in his memories for a long time as one of those black days. One of the rising superstars of boxing, Ryan Garcia, suffered a humiliating defeat to archrival Gervonta Davis. Many questions have since been raised regarding the Californian’s preparedness. Perhaps to cleanse himself of those demons, one of his first steps was to change trainers. According to available reports, he has finally homed in on a famed trainer whose resume includes some of the biggest names in boxing today.
Michael Benson shared a tweet early today about Ryan Garcia deciding on Derrick James as the new trainer. From October 2018 till February last year, along with ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Oscar Valdez, ‘KingRy’ was under Eddy Reynoso‘s tutelage. Then, however, the Emmanuel Tagoe fight on April 9 saw Joe Goossen joining his camp as the primary coach. But as the loss to the fearsome Davis unfolded, the twenty-four-year-old thought that changing his training needs might help from a future perspective.

Meanwhile, one user appreciated Garcia’s decision to choose Derrick James. According to him, besides being in the company of outstanding boxers such as Errol Spence Jr., Anthony Joshua, and Jermell Charlo, he will have the advantage of getting into sparring sessions with Frank Martin.
Derrick James makes his people work with no distractions and Ryan is going to have a great sparring partner in Frank Martin too, iron sharpens iron. Also he's going to be surrounded by great killers (Jermell, AJ, Spence). Helluva good choice

DJ will drill the basics back into Ryan’s tools set and will make him a better fighters 🔥 good thing about DJ is that he play no games so we will see if Ryan is dedicated to the sport 🥊

However, a few doubt whether it’s such an intelligent step. One user mentioned that Ryan Garcia left Eddy Reynoso’s camp because he felt he was not receiving the right amount of attention from the legendary trainer. So with many stars present at Derrick James’ place, he wonders whether Garcia is under the impression that he’ll get all the focus he needs.
He left Reynoso claiming that he was not getting enough attention but he thinks he'll get more with that stable?

The following user criticized Garcia for not being serious about his career, and that’s the biggest problem. James would be his third trainer in years, but till he gives his whole to the sport, nothing much will come out of it.
3 different trainers, the problem is him and his lack of commitment to his career full time.
