At age 36, Terence Crawford knows that very soon, he will reach a time when options that ensure both a paycheck and an enduring legacy will run dry. Perhaps that could be why he called out Canelo Alvarez soon after doing away with the Errol Spence Jr. business. He called out Jermell Charlo as well. However, last Saturday’s defeat threw a spanner in that plan in many ways.

As far as Alvarez is concerned, it appears least likely that he would scale down to meet Crawford. Thus, the onus may befall the Nebraskan, who might have to deal with the Herculean task of ascending three divisions, equivalent to roughly 21 pounds of variance. Already, Jermell Charlo has received criticism for his decision to climb two divisions for the undisputed battle. But unlike many skeptics, a few believe it’s a double task for Crawford since he has what it takes to tame the Super Middleweight Superman.

Welterweight Crawford trounces Heavyweight…..in wrestling

@AccordToBoxing tweeted that Canelo Alvarez won’t outpower Terence Crawford. They shared excerpts from an interview with Tokyo Olympic silver medalist, and now Heavyweight prospect Richard Torrez gave to FighyHype. He attested to Terence Crawford’s strength and skill. So, from the upcoming Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou fight, the talks veered off to crossover bouts and how it will eventually turn out for either mixed martial artists or boxers.

Sean Zittel asked, “I don’t know if you’d get eaten up in an MMA match. You look like you could body-slam someone if you needed to.” Torrez immediately responded, “… You know I’m not going to try to get into that clinch, man. I uh, Terence Crawford dropped me with the uh with the headlock or something like that man Terence Crawford, and I wrestled; he kicked my butt, and so ever since then, I was like, Yeah, it’s not for me, man, I was like, This wrestling thing is not my…my forte.

Sean Zittel added that he had seen Crawford hoist up people bigger than Torrez. The latter shared how, while visiting Crawford, he got invited for a friendly wrestling exchange. Torrez described that initially, he took the sparring lightly.

The Mighty ‘Bud’

However, he soon could feel his grip, forcing him to give up,”…I feel just like his…his grip; I’m like, Oh, I’m done. I was like, It’s over because…that locking place, and I was like, There’s no way out, and so he got me, but uh, kudos to him, man, he’s…he’s a super strong guy.

When Zittel asked how much he weighed that day, Torrez told him it should have been around 220 pounds. Terence Crawford’s multi-disciplinary talent shouldn’t surprise anyone anymore. His consistent performance over the years eventually saw him accomplish one of the most extraordinary history-making feats in July. One of the reasons is an exceptional insight into other disciplines instead of restricting himself to only one—proficiency in wrestling is one such example.

Torrez could corroborate Crawford’s strength. Hence, do you think it should be okay with the latter to jump three divisions up to meet Canelo Alvarez? Please share your thoughts and views with us in the comments below.
