As the Cinco de Mayo weekend approaches, the boxing world buzzes with anticipation for the Canelo Alvarez vs. Jaime Munguia showdown. But beyond the ring, sparks fly between Canelo and his ex-promoter Oscar De La Hoya. Remember their split? It was messy, laden with harsh words and severed ties.

De La Hoya now promises to unleash a verbal barrage during fight week. Will this rattle Canelo? Not likely. The champ shrugs it off, focusing solely on the fight. “He have sh*t in his head,” Canelo says dismissively about Oscar. How will it play out come fight night?

During a recent interview with iFL TV, the spotlight wasn’t just on Canelo Alvarez’s upcoming bout but also on the escalating verbal sparring with his former promoter. When the interviewer probed, “So Oscar said that he wouldn’t hold back this week. What did you make of his comments when he was referencing yourself?” Canelo’s response was both blunt and dismissive. “I don’t really care and I’m so happy and I’m focused on my fight. I don’t really care about Oscar. He have sh*t in his head. I don’t give a sh*t what he say,” he declared.

Previously, Oscar De La Hoya had vowed to turn up the heat on Canelo while also promoting his prospect Jaime Munguia. On ‘The MMA Hour,’ he made it clear, “I’m going to speak the truth right when I’m promoting this and on the podium. Look, I’m not going to hold back. I’m gonna go hard.” He promised a tirade that would not shy away from stirring controversy, hinting at unleashing all kinds of remarks during fight week. “I’m going to talk sh*t like there’s no tomorrow. The sht that he’s talked about me, you know. I got all kinds of stuff, I got all kinds of stuff, fight week,” Oscar added.

It’s pretty clear that none of them are interested in being friends. At least Canelo’s stance is clear on this.

Canelo Alvarez has drawn a firm line in the sand regarding Oscar De La Hoya. There’s no love lost between the undisputed super-middleweight champ and his former promoter. In a straightforward talk with BoxingScene, Canelo shared his stance without mincing words. “I’m not interested in being friends with him. I’m fine where I am,” he expressed clearly.

He added more about keeping his distance, saying, “I have nothing to do with him. I wish him all the best and that’s it. But I don’t want him in my life. I don’t want him near me or around me. I don’t want that kind of vibe in my life.”

So, as the big night approaches, one has to wonder: Will Canelo’s determination and focus inside the ring prove him right in brushing off the external noise?
