Legendary boxing coach and former professional boxer Floyd Mayweather Sr. might not have been the best father. However, he still helped nurture a young Floyd Mayweather who would go on to define the sport in his era. Despite this, Mayweather Sr. never had the best childhood himself.
In the book Money: The Life and Fast Times of Floyd Mayweather, renowned author Tris Dixon gives an insight into Mayweather Sr’s past. Moreover, in the first chapter, the legendary coach also described his childhood.

Mayweather Sr stated that his father wasn’t particularly around and didn’t provide for his family. He added that his father even left home when he was just 5 years old. However, he still loved him just due to the blood bond they shared.
“‘Not to be disrespectful but my father wasn’t that different from a lot of other fathers, he didn’t do anything for his kids. ‘Kids, they feel it. And age fifteen, that’s a devastating time to leave. But at the end of the day, he was still my father. He wasn’t the best father in the world and he wasn’t the worst father in the world,” he said.
Mayweather Sr. then revealed that his sister was the one who had a close attachment with their father despite all his flaws. He even detailed the time she took care of their father when he suffered from a devastating car accident and fell victim to other illnesses.

In the next paragraph, Mayweather Sr. revealed that his father was in a car accident 10 years before he passed away. During this time his sister took care of him for which Mayweather Sr. respected her a lot as he was only able to give him money and nothing else.
“Around ten years before he died, a car hit Theartha. He had also suffered with brain cancer and had partial deafness. One of the daughters, Anna, cared for Theartha in his old age. ‘She’s the queen,’ Floyd Sr said. ‘She definitely took care of her daddy, all the way,” he said.

Mayweather Sr. might feel a little guilty that he wasn’t able to care for his father like Anna. However, his father was far from a perfect one. He reportedly abandoned his family during hard times, which might have prompted some hard feelings between them.
