Ryan Garica got handed his first-ever defeat in professional boxing against Gervonta Davis last month. The 24-year-old boxer took the defeat to the chin and is making amends in his training set-up for the better. Last year, he split with Eddy Reynoso and started training under Joe Goossen; a boxing trainer and an analyst.

However, post his defeat, Garcia left Goossen, and the two are no longer associated. Goossen was recently asked about his opinion on being left by ‘KingRy’ in which he revealed that the 24-year-old called him to express the reasons behind his decision to split.

What did Ryan Garcia say to Joe Goossen regarding splitting?

It is not known who Garcia will bring in as a trainer to replace Goossen but it is evident that the two are no longer associated. Goossen publicly revealed that Garcia had called him to explain his stance as to why the boxer after his defeat decided to split with him. @MichaelBensonn took to Twitter and reported the recent comments made by him.

He stated, “Ryan and I will always be friends… Normally a fighter’s not gonna call you personally. He did the right thing, he called. I said, ‘You’re a real man’… If he feels he needs to go in another direction, that’s his choice.”

Although the two will no longer be training together, it is safe to say that there is no bad blood between the two. Garcia knows what is best for him and is trying to make amends after his defeat which includes splitting with Goossen. Goossen has been in the sport for decades. At the very least, Goossen confessed that the way Garcia approached the split is different than other fighters in the past. He appreciated Garcia for calling him personally and respected his decision to split.
