Floyd Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez are still being compared, especially after Mayweather hit the Mexican star with some harsh words recently. Mayweather claimed to have had an easy night against Alvarez back in their in-ring scrap from 2013. Although Alvarez didn’t respond to it specifically, he has explained several times how Mayweather fought him when he was very young and would never dare to face the current P4P king in his prime.
Canelo Alvarez has justified his defeat for several reasons. But akin to the scoreboard, Mayweather has constantly boasted his supremacy over Alvarez. Now, Roy Jones Jr. dived in to pour his opinion on the whole scene.
In a chat with Seconds Out, ‘Captain Hook’ talked about several things, including the recent banter between ‘TBE’ and ‘The P4P King’. While Jones Jr. revealed his take, he didn’t pick any sides in the debate.

Roy Jones Jr. said, “It’s like with Floyd [Mayweather] which I understand about Floyd is Floyd also beat Canelo [Alvarez]. Canelo was young but he still beat Canelo. So of course, Floyd is gonna say things that are different because he did beat Canelo. Whether he beat Canelo in Canelo’s prime? We don’t know. We never saw that fight happen. So, I don’t know what he said or what he might say. It’s just really I can’t comment because I don’t know.”

Is Canelo Alvarez greater than Floyd Mayweather?
A four-division world champion already, Alvarez’s potential move to the cruiserweight division can see him become a five-division champion. Mayweather, also a five-division champion, has 50 wins, whereas Canelo Alvarez is 57-1-2 and can end up staging triple-digit wins before he calls it a day. Besides, Alvarez has held the undisputed titles at 168, something which Mayweather could never do.
As for the financial successes, both men have been the respective cash cows of their era. But Floyd Mayweather clearly has been more marketable and has retired as the richest boxer of all time. By the time Alvarez reaches his final days in boxing, it will be fair to compare him with Mayweather.
