It’s a season of comebacks. Though how much of a success, it’s an altogether different matter. Perhaps fan reactions might help in that direction. Take a look at the latest attempt—former three-division world champion Shane Mosley marked a return eight years after he retired from professional boxing. Of course, the fight occurred under the celebrity boxing banner, but still, it left quite a few fans confused.
The Lynwood, California-born boxer, whose career witnessed fights against some of the biggest names of the era, turned 53 on September 7. His son Shane Mosley Jr. is already splashing waves in the middleweight division, where he currently tops the WBA ranking. Probably buoyed by his latest feat, ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley used the occasion for an interesting callout.

Several channels shared the update on Shane Mosley. Congratulating Shane Mosley, Boxing Kingdom highlighted how the former champion won the bout with a fifth-round technical knockout. They also revealed the primary purpose behind Mosley stepping into the ring remained a charitable cause and, of course, his love for boxing.
Congrats to Shane Mosley on his return to the ring tonight. Mosley won by TKO in the 5th. Sugar Shane is fighting again as he loves the sport and to raise awareness for his charity. Mosley also called out Conor McGregor‼️

Then, perhaps taking inspiration from Mike Tyson, who will be fighting Jake Paul in November, ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley called out 36-year-old Conor McGregor for a bout! The celebrity event for a house light heavyweight title took place at a casino, Harrah’s, in the Philadelphia suburb of Chester. Mosley’s opponent is county coach Bob Kofroth, who owns and runs the boxing gym Elite Edge Boxing.
It seems the round was of 1 minute only. The fight elsewhere largely restricted itself to the center of the ring. Though Kofroth had a few good jabs to display, they didn’t hold up against someone like Shane Mosley, whose uppercut apparently convinced his side to throw in the towel.

But not all fans appeared on board with the former world champion’s reappearance. Let’s check what a few of them had to say.
Reacting to the Boxing Kingdom feed, this user sounded a bit confused. probably referring to Mosley; they believe that they saw him in a wheelchair, his condition impaired by CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy). “I saw videos of him in a wheelchair not being able to speak properly, like a few months ago; I thought he was screwed from the cte,” the user said.

But conversely, a fan felt quite optimistic. The way Mosley fought, perhaps he might as well drub ‘The Notorious’ in a showdown. “Currently he’d probably smash Conor McGregor😂🍺🥃🍸🚬” News that such an event took place might have come as a total surprise to many. Probably that could be the reason why this follower seemed unaware of a few details. They asked, “Who did he fight? What’s their age difference?”
However, a ready response came. “Dillian Whyte,” this follower tweeted the former interim heavyweight champion’s name for the query on Mosley’s opponent. Then perhaps the whole celebrity boxing thing perplexed this user, forcing them to ask, “WTF is this?”
There are a few other posts where fans reportedly beseeched Shane Mosley not to wear the ring again.

Probably, considering the fact that the former world champion entertained for over two decades, where he won and lost against the likes of Floyd Mayweather Jr., Manny Pacquiao, and Oscar De La Hoya, some of the fans are unable to fathom watching him return for such exhibitions. They would rather see him happily retired and enjoying life.
What are your thoughts? Do you feel it could be a trio of former, retired boxers returning to fights?
