When you push for an upgrade, you do it in style. That’s what La Velada did with their fourth edition of the annual influencer boxing event, which got bigger and better and even occupied one of the most iconic stadiums in the world, Santiago Bernabéu. The scale of the event this year even pulled Will Smith, who had a forgettable night as his performance tanked as he flew from the other side of the Atlantic, prompting hilarious reactions from the fans.
So, what makes La Velada del Año IV the world’s most famous influencer boxing event? Well, first, it’s a place where the most famed Spanish streamers come together and try to put on a show for the fans. That’s not it. Ibai Llanos, who boasts 15 million subscribers, streams it live on Twitch. When the 2022 edition went live on Twitch, it broke the record for most concurrent viewers, which it only bettered last year before a crowd of 70,000 at Madrid’s Civitas Metropolitano stadium. This year, it got even more grand.

The arena, which produced one of the most memorable moments in soccer history, bore witness to the likes of top Hispanic creators and artists Bizarrap and Anuel, this time, as they entertained a crowd of 85,000. In addition, the fans had a stacked card of popular streamers like El Mariana and La Cobra. Amusingly, La Cobra went viral for mimicking Lionel Messi‘s iconic celebration at Santiago Bernabéu as he sneaked past Guanyar, and walked off the ring wearing a FC Barcelona jersey. It’s the thrilling and unexpected moments at La Velada that make it a grand event.

Adding to its glamour was Will Smith, who embraced his hip-hop persona and sang his most popular songs after making a grand entry. However, the crowd remained largely static and without noise, as they enjoyed the American singer’s performance with little fuss, even shying away from singing the lyrics to his songs. Later, the clip of the Hollywood star singing his breakthrough show ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ theme went viral, pulling fans into the comment section.

One fan found the clip funny, as whenever Smith tried to point the mic at the crowd, they refused to sing along. They wrote, “That was funny. Nobody knew the words whenever he stopped and pointed the mic at the crowd.”

One user questioned the 55-year-old actor’s action, as they believed the Spanish crowd wouldn’t have remembered the lyrics to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’. They commented, “They speak Spanish why he trying to get them to sing the lyrics lmfao.”

Someone believed if Smith donned a pair of boxing gloves and entered the boxing ring, it would have been more entertaining than his lackluster singing performance. They declared, “He could have boxed and performed better haha.”

A comment, sizing up the crowd and the grandiose event, speculated that the Spanish crowd had lesser mediums of entertainment, and that’s the reason they filled up Santiago Bernabéu. The comment read, “Spain starving for entertainment…”

Another fan curiously drew parallels from the KSI‘s Misfits Boxing, which also promotes and stages fights involving influencers. But Misfits never expanded their events to iconic stadiums. They criticized Misfits and stated, “This is what influencer boxing should be instead misfits stinks it up with NPCs in tiny venues.”

Another user followed suit and pointed out that Spanish influencer boxing had outclassed Misfits by some distance. They announced, “Damn the Spanish got misfits beat by miles.”

Lastly, a comment threw shade at KSI and Mams Taylor for their theatrics and antics during weigh-ins, flashy entrances, etc. to promote their fights, which often caught the limelight for the wrong reasons. The comment read, “Shows what a circus act @ksi and @MamsTaylor put together at misfits.”
Looks like a great event!
