Is the Fury vs. Joshua fight the clash of the titans boxing fans have been waiting for?

Where is Anthony Joshua’s career headed? It’s a tough question with no right answers, especially after a devastating loss to Daniel Dubois. However, there have been two options that fans and pundits have pitched—either go for a rematch or wait and take on Tyson Fury. It seems the latter has plans of his own, including a sell-out showdown against ‘AJ’ at Wembley.

Joshua, 34, and Fury, 36, have been at each other’s throats for quite some time, and despite a canceled event in 2022, a fight between them is brewing once again. What’s more? The fight seems imminent, irrespective of ‘The Gypsy King’s result with Oleksandr Usyk. So when asked about his potential fight with his British counterpart, Fury was confident of a showdown down the line.

Fury, at 34-1-1, talked about his rivalry and probable fight with Joshua, at 28-4, as he sat down with Play Undisputed. He charted out an ideal match with at Wembley, even if they have touched the age of 50. He said, “Joshua knows he’s getting it. Even if we’re 50 years old, he’s got to fight me. There’s no escaping it. He cannot escape me. Even if we are 50, we’re still gonna sell out Wembley.”

These comments run contrary to Eddie Hearn‘s demand of an immediate rematch with Dubois, 27, which could help put Joshua back into the title conversation. But not everyone favors a rematch, given how ‘Dynamite’ dominated the fight with Joshua. Former world champion Carl Froch also falls in the same category, advocating for a wait-and-watch tactic for Joshua.

The Anthony Joshua conundrum: Daniel Dubois or Tyson Fury?

Froch, 47, turned to his YouTube channel and pointed out that a rematch between Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois was only good for the current IBF champion, as he dominated the fight and had the Watford native all figured out. He declared, “Do I think the rematch is a good idea? The answer to that is no. Not for Anthony Joshua. For Daniel Dubois, the rematch is fantastic.”

However, Froch also suggested an alternative to Joshua. To sit back and rest and decide after Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury have settled it out. To him, a fight with Fury would be the perfect send-off. He continued, “AJ can have a bit of time off, sit back, and rest and recover and get his mind right and have a look at how Fury performs against Usyk. I think that’s a safe plot and a safe path to exiting the game.”

It all depends on which result Fury churns out against Usyk, as Dubios is not returning to the ring before February next year. It could give Joshua a clear picture of what he needs to do next. Whether he will go for a rematch with Dubios and set a big fight with Fury if Fury is the unified champion. Or fight Fury next, if Fury loses the rematch too, and give fans a fight that they have been asking for a long time now.
