“He Blackmailed Me for a Million Pounds”: Conor Benn Details Why Chris Eubank Jr. Fight Is “Personal” to Him

Once again Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Conor Benn is in the making. Last year, with the fight around the corner, Benn tested positive for Clomifene, a PED that raises testosterone by 50%. As a result, after the British Boxing Board of Control refused to sanction the bout, the match was called off. However, an official statement by Matchroom criticized the BBBoC by calling their decision “procedurally flawed,” and assured the fans that they were “formally” postponing the bout.

Recently, Eddie Hearn confirmed that Benn vs. Eubank Jr. would happen in January 2024. In this context, Benn recently spoke to IFL TV in an exclusive. And ahead of the fight with Eubank Jr., Benn revealed the contest is now personal to him. Well, here is what he said.

Speaking to IFL TV, Conor Benn guaranteed that he would knock out Chris Eubank Jr. In addition, he mentioned that after he finishes the former interim middleweight champion, he would return to 147 lbs and win world titles. “When I knock him out, I’m going back down to 147 and capture the world titles. I won’t give him another chance. I wanna knock him out, I will,” a determined Benn said. “You got to understand [that] it’s now personal. Before, it was just business now it has become very personal,”

“It’s just the way he conducted himself, the way he was, the way he lied. The way he blackmailed me for a million pounds. Yeah, it doesn’t sit right with me,” stated Benn. “You never kick a man when he’s down as bad as I was. So, for me, it’s okay cool, I see your makeup, I know what you are, I know who you are. No problem,” he explained. Along these lines, Benn, who is ready to go, mentioned that when he beats Eubank Jr. he doesn’t want there to be excuses.

Benn thinks he will do just fine at 160lbs

Although this is his first fight at 160 lbs, Benn, who usually fights at 147 lbs, is not worried. He thinks he would do just fine and hand Eubank Jr. a defeat. Likewise, on being asked if there was an issue fighting at 160 lbs, Benn answered in the negative. “160, no rehydration clause. Nothing. I’m not concerned. When I beat him I don’t want there to be any excuses,” gently added Benn.
