Is Ryan Garcia's father right to publicly call out his son for alleged drinking issues?

Is Ryan Garcia going off the rails? A one-year suspension ruling by the NYSAC after being popped for Ostarine and his mother’s subsequent cancer diagnosis have seemed to turn his world upside down. By his own admission, Garcia is struggling to cope with the harsh realities of life. “Mom has cancer I’m being sued My supplements were tainted Going thru a divorce Always GETTING SHIT TALKED on the internet FOR YEARS Devin asking for my victory to be taken away I’m getting hit with everything,” Garcia wrote on X.

But ‘KingRy’s’ way of dealing with it all seems to be going on endless tirades on socials. The message is loud and clear: he isn’t going to take all the hate lying down. As Garcia battles one crisis after another, his father, Henry Garcia, has reached out to him. He wants him to get rid of his drinking habit, and seek therapy to get his vice under control. ‘King Ry’ nevertheless claims he is already on top of things.

It hasn’t been long since Henry Garcia pleaded with his son to stop drinking. “I haven’t spoken to Ryan in a long time. He speaks to his mother more than me. But it’s okay, he’ll call me when he wants to. I would love for him to get some type of therapy when it comes to his drinking. I’m being real. He says he can control it. I hope he can. But if he doesn’t – get that therapy so he can stop,” he told Fight Hub TV.

Ryan and his father haven’t kept in touch for quite a while. The 25-year-old boxer responded to his father’s message, claiming he stopped drinking a while back. “I don’t even drink anymore My dad doesn’t know what he is talking about I literally was just talking to him – and he has apologized,” Garcia wrote on X, which has since been deleted.

In a tweet last month, Garcia claimed that he wanted to “change” for his mother, and wasn’t drinking as much as he used to. “I don’t even drink as much anymore I’ve been changing my life for my mom My family,” Garcia tweeted.

Nonetheless, with or without alcohol, lately, Ryan Garcia has been making lewd remarks towards people he has been bantering on social media. Whether it is former IBF super middleweight champion Caleb Plant’s wife, Jordan Plant, or former light-middleweight champion Claressa Shields, he has been dishing out expletives or offensive remarks with reckless abandon. But, Shields has a befitting message for Garcia’s unhinged actions.

Somebody needs to take accountability

Ever since reports about Ryan Garcia’s PED usage started making the rounds, Claressa Shields has been on his case. Both boxers have resorted to routine mud-slinging and accusations, but it all came to a head when the Flint, Michigan native leaked Garcia’s NSFW messages on her DMs. “I’m saying you said my mom don’t got cancer crack head. Are you f*king an idiot. Dumb a*s crack head read b*tch. Screenshot b*tch,” Garcia’s DM read, who later admitted his guilt.

Furthermore, in a long X post, Shields asked Garcia to stop “misleading people”, and “pointing the finger at everyone else” for all the troubles he finds himself in on the professional front.

Even after Garcia’s win against Devin Haney ruled a “no contest”, and a year-long suspension, Haney might not be satisfied. ‘The Dream’ is planning further legal action for affecting his mental health, and damaging his financial viability in the sport.
