Nothing shook the fans as much as the controversy surrounding Ryan Garcia testing positive for ostarine in recent memory. It was a debacle. Fans and pundits speculated about the reasons for it. However, Eddie Hearn, who witnessed the event unfold closely as Devin Haney’s promoter, had a different take.

Garcia, 26, took on Devin Haney but had a difficult fight week leading up to the fight. While he was attracting attention for his antics on social media, he had to pay for the missed weight, too. His only moment of glory and comfort after he defeated Haney, 25, also didn’t last long as he turned in positive test samples. So, when Hearn, 45, sat down with undefeated veteran boxer Andre Ward on his All the Smoke Fight show, he lifted the veil on what he believes happened.

The British promoter pointed out his experience with almost 50 positive drug tests in his promotional career, but nothing dumbfounded him like the case of ‘KingRy’. He admitted, “Listen, I’ve had 50 positive drug tests in my promotional career for different fighters. I know how it goes down. But this one was just like [jaw drop], you know.” The Matchroom Boxing lynchpin then pointed out that the samples detected ostarine on the night before the fight and the night of the fight. And the reason? To make the weight for the fight.

“So you know categorically that it was in his system during the fight. Not they cycled out 12 weeks ago… And you know it was in him in the fight. If I’m honest, knowing [having] been through all these different 50 cases, it would lead me to believe that it was in relation to the weight cut,” Hearn explained to Andre Ward.

The Dagenham native then dismissed the claims of Garcia, at 24-1, that it was because of the contamination of supplements. For him, it was a last resort to make the weight cut and weigh right on the scale. The fans still remember how the super lightweight boxer had to pay out $1.5 million to Haney for his missed weight.

Despite the controversy surrounding the PED abuse by Garcia, there are demands for a rematch. And the Victorville native remains confident of putting on a similar performance.

Ryan Garcia is ready to repeat what he did to Devin Haney

Garcia turned to his social media and disclosed what he believed would happen in their rematch. He said, “I would beat his [backside] twice. I beat him easy.” In addition, he registered his desire to be tested regularly before the fight to dispel doubts about his taking PEDs. He continued, “They could blood test me every week. Every day. They could have a camera in my training camp. They could know everything. But this man will not beat me.”

Interestingly, HE Turki Alalshikh has also expressed his desire to make a fight involving Garcia in Saudi Arabia. However, the condition is that he comes clean, without PEDs in his body. Will that happen? It remains to be seen.
