Boxing legend Mike Tyson was never a perfect role model by any stretch of the imagination. Despite this, Tyson was able to negate his flaws purely by his boxing skills becoming so great that people had to respect him, even if they didn’t admire the former heavyweight champion. However, ‘Iron’ Mike didn’t have the advantage of being the best boxer in the world during his childhood days.

In contrast, his childhood years were some of the worst experiences of his life as he has claimed publically in many interviews. Moreover, there were some instances where Tyson was subjected to an amount of abuse that easily stands out from the rest. This includes an incident where he almost got his groin blown off by a shotgun owner due to being a social pariah in his community.

Mike Tyson details why he was hated by his community

In his book, Undisputed Truth, Tyson revealed that he was subjected to a lot of abuse because people thought he was a thief. He claimed that he had stones thrown at him while he walked down the street with people calling him out with racial slurs.

“A landlord or owner of a store would see me walking by and pick up a rock and throw it at me. “Motherf***g little thieving bas**d. They’d see me in nice clothes and they just knew that I was the n**a stealing from them,” he said.

Moreover, ‘Iron’ Mike even detailed an incident where a shotgun owner came at him and threatened to blow off his groin. This would scar Tyson for a long time as he didn’t even know who the attacker was.

“I was walking past a building one time and I stopped to talk to a friend and this guy Nicky came out with a shotgun and his friend had a pistol. His friend pulled out his pistol and Nicky put the shotgun over my p**is. ‘Listen little ni***a, if I hear you’ve been going up on that motherfucking roof again, I’ll f**k you up. If I ever see you again in this neighbourhood I am going to blow your b**ls off,’ he said. I didn’t even know who the f**k this guy was, but he evidently knew who I was,” he added.

Tyson certainly didn’t have it easy when it came to being subjugated in his childhood. Moreover, things got so bad to the point even his own mother lost hope for her child.
