Gervonta Davis is finally back. But fans are still as divided as ever. After all, the Baltimore native has enamored the fans with his boxing skills and penchant for knockouts. However, the script is getting boring for them, as he yet again makes a quest against a relatively lesser-known name, and fellow superstars fail to enter the scene. It seems the fans might finally be reaching a tipping point.
Davis, 30, will fight it out with Lamont Roach on March 25 on the PBC-Amazon Prime Video card as he tries to defend his WBA lightweight title a second time. It will only be his second fight after he dropped Ryan Garcia more than a year ago, and despite demands of putting on a show against bigger names, ‘Tank’ failed to meet their desires. If talked about the Roach fight alone, if the boxing commentator, ShowBizz The Adult is to be believed, it’s an easy call to make.

Gervonta Davis: a bit of Roy Jones Jr.
ShowBizz The Adult turned to his social media handles and gave his candid opinion of Davis vs. Roach. The YouTuber believed the 30-0 record holder had the fight in the bag, as the latter had emerged as the superstar in the lightweight division. In addition, he advocated for him to move up a division to feel the sense of competition. He said, “I don’t think anyone at 135 down to mess with the boy. I think, in order for Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis to find that type of competition, he has to go up to 140. That’s how I [see].”

The boxing competitor then roped in Roy Jones Jr. to draw a parallel. He continued, “It’s kind of like Roy Jones Jr. Nobody can mess with him at middleweight. So, he moved up to heavyweight. Nobody can mess with him there either, and honestly, I don’t think anybody is beating Gervonta at 140.” These comments didn’t sit well with the fans, who took to the comments section and expressed their discontent with his opinion.
Fans tear apart ‘Tank’
One fan cast judgment on the Davis vs. Roach fight. They said, “Ain’t nobody watching that sh*t and tank My boy.” The fans have grown weary of Davis fighting lesser-known names and non-title holders, which even affected his last fight’s PPV. Davis vs. Martin reportedly only did 350,000 PPV buys.

A user compared Jones Jr.’s career with Davis. They declared, “Roy never ducked anyone and never demanded to fight anyone at a catch weight.” This was a reference to Davis avoiding other prominent names at 135 and demanding a rehydration clause in his fight with ‘KingRy’.
What’s your perspective on:
Is Gervonta Davis dodging real competition, or is he just biding his time for a bigger fight?

Someone didn’t agree with Showbizz The Adult’s assessment of Davis. They wrote, “I hate that you say that and he never fights nobody. How can you say nobody can mess with him and he refuses to fight the top guys at his weight.” The lightweight division has the likes of Shakur Stevenson, Denys Berinchyk, and despite the former’s callout, Davis never entertained the proposal or exhibited aspirations to unify the titles.
A comment took a dig at Davis’ recent opponents. The comment read, “Who did he fight that was a natural 135😂.” While Roach is moving up from super featherweight to challenge Davis, the same could be said about Hector Luis Garcia.

Lastly, a hopeful fan expected a better fight. They penned, “Might be a better fight than we think..” Roach is the reigning WBA super featherweight champion and could prove to be a tougher tactical matchup than many realize.
